In JS1 I could play and record a piano, bass, etc part in Cubase SX3, insert audiom8 on track in Cubase SX, load JS1, load drumkit, hit play in Cubase and JS1 would play a drum track that matched the timing and dynamics of audio part I played in Cubase without the track having been played to a click track, JS1 would just follow the tempo of the audio it was assigned to with awsome results, or I could even do same as above but rather than prerecord audio part I could just start playing piano part and JS1 would follow me and play great drum track. In JS2 it does nothing following audio track unless I choose and load drummer, and style, and it still does not create drum track following dynamics and timing of audio part very well. If I try to assign it to a track not played to click track it follows tempo in Cubase and not follow the audio. Can you tell me what is different and what I am doing wrong. Thanks.

JS1 and JS2 NEVER follow the tempo of an audio clip. They are both always synched to the host. Both use audio signals to adjust dynamics and associated play rules. That's why you must select a style/drummer in JS2.

If the dynamics of JS2 are not too your liking, try djusting the input trim or using a input velocity map curve in 'Options'.

We are working on a groove builder for the upcoming Jamstix 3 that will allow more in-depth analysis of audio signals for better groove matching. It will still synch to the host though so if your audio has no click or inherent BPM then you need to use tempo tracking/matching in your host.

Would it be possible to have JS3 follow pitch changes too?

Well.... I'm not a drummer, so I don't really know how a real drummer would go about it, and it would probably work best for metal I guess, but...

Lets say audiom8 could "hear" changes in pitch along with the transients from the bass, or, a muted guitar riff or whatever, and took that into consideration when composing the groove or the accents. The more I think about it, the current method makes fine sense and is probably enough.

Maybe I'm talking out my arse. It's 1.30am here.

What we are aiming at with our current work on 'GrooveBuilder' is to detect rhythmic properties in audio material such as bass and mid peaks and peak change gradients in order to offer options to track the bass characteristics with kick and snare and the mid level with hihat/ride plus some crossover of the two. Harmonic analysis will aim at determining part changes.

Thanks Ralph I must have not remembered correctly. Tracks I used follow audio on in JS1 I must have recorded the tracks to a click track. Thanks once again for you very quick tech support. I do not see how you have time to improve and create the awsome software you offer us and stay up on tech support so well personally. thanks again
