While waiting for the update of the manual, I'd like to understand something more about the groove weights. If I'm not wrong, changing the weights should force the groove to take a specific direction (stress specific beats/ticks....usw)

What I can't grasp is the way it actually works and what happens if I switch (for example) a tick from "heavy" to "syncopated" or "neutral". I tried to make some random changes to the map and I noticed the brain composes the groove in different ways but I'd love to be able to have a deeper degree of control: in a word, I'd like to know what I'm doing

It depends on the style but the essential element is this:

'Heavy' is an emphasized beat, such as 1,2,3 and 4 in a standard 4/4

'Medium' is a mid-range beat, such as 1+,2+,3+ and 4+ in a standard 4/4

'Syncopated' are the 16th around a 'Heavy' in standard 4/4.

So for example: the '8th Rock' style places kick and snare notes on 'Heavy' beats in an alternating fashion. If you set all 'Medium' weights to 'Heavy' then you just made the brain play in double-time.

The idea is that you think about what beats/ticks in your song have what weight and then program those weights to make the brain more likely to fit your specific song feel.

Where do you get the groove weight options?I just get them at the bar editor but I don`t see them on the part and the song menu.

It's right in there. Click on part menu icon -> Groove Weights or the Song menu icon -> 'Groove Weights'.

There is groove weights but not the options(beat,neutral,syncopated).When I try to load there is only one option in the groove maps folder which is sraight4/4.Or am I missing something?

You need to unzip the ZIP into the 'groovemaps' folder . This will give you a bunch of files in addition to the 'Straight 4/4'.

Thank you Ralph,so there is no option (Beat,neutral,syncopated) straight from the part and the song menu under groove weights tab.

If you want to set weights manually you do it all in the bar editor. Note the S-P-B buttons in the bar editor. If S is on then changing the weight on a tick affects ALL bars, if it is P then it is the whole part and if it is B then it is just the current bar.

with JS 2.5 sometimes i change the groove weigth and, by recomposing the bars, nothing changes.
i admit i never investigated this too much, but this is what happened the last time i tried...
do i miss something?

It depends on the style you are using. Some use groove weights and others (where are more rigid interpretation is required) do not.

It only applies to style models and unfortunately I don't have a list of which styles can use weights and which do not

I'll see if we can create that but it will have to be on the backburner.
