What exactly does the button do? Is it a one-shot change note assignments? Or does the button "enforce" the assignments even if a kit is loaded?
Are *all* Jamstix drums mapped to GM notes? (Including HiHat 25%, Half, 75%, foot crash)
Is there a table somewhere that list the Jamstix-to-GM mapping? Or do I simply click the "Map GM" button and review the list? |

The function checks each MIDI event on the input and routes it to the best-matching sound of the current kit (regardless of what that sounds MIDI key might be). It allows you to play GM drum MIDI clips with any internal kit or even subhosted kit without having to worry about matching keys.

No, since GM does not have many sounds Jamstix uses (i.e 25% hat)

Not at this time. It's meant to be a 'set it and forget' function when playing GM MIDI drum clips with Jamstix or using a GM e-drumkit. For all other applications, including playback of JS MIDI export, it should be off. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks for the reply.

Not meaning to belabor the issue, but can you tell me how that's done?
Also, if I add a drum to a kit, is it then addressable via the 'map GM' mechanism?
I'm trying to setup a midi-mapper program to reverse the pads on my Yamaha kit (I'm left-handed). At the same time, I'm using pads on my midi controller keyboard for additional drum sounds.
I want to use the 'map GM' button for consistency, but I also want all the Jamstix sounds at my disposal and I want to make sure I understand how sounds are selected in Jamstix.
Thanks! |

It would take me some time to create a mapping diagram. I can do that when there's some downtime but not right now. Hope you can understand.

Only if it falls within the range of sounds that JS maps to. Remember, the function is designed to route standard GM keys to the best-matching sounds by slot (i.e. Tom 4 Left).

If you are using a special e-drumkit setup like that and wish to be able to use all JS sounds then I'd not use 'Map GM' and instead adjust either the keys of the input pads/drums to match the desired keys of the JS sounds or change the keys of the JS sounds to match the input pads/drums. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks for the reply.
It sound like 'map GM' serves a purpose but in my case it will limit flexibility. I'll stick to using alternative methods. |
