| I was wondering what became of Jambassist/Jambace? I was looking forward to this when first heard of it, but now the Jambassist forums don't appear to exist... |

It's unfortunately on the back burner since we have to focus fully on OSX and 64-bit. It's not forgotten, though! _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Ralph excuse me but I'm on my 4th beer in preparation for tonight's festivities, but have you ever considered putting out just an AI module to drive the other bass vstis such as Trilian or the Scarbee samples? I realize that you're focusing on OSX and 64 bit and I am just throwing this brainstorm out there. I would think it would save a considerable amount of work not having to deal with sampling the basses yourself. I'm just putting my .02 in here. |

although I think that's the best route, I wonder about the complexity of THOSE mappings vs. jamstix...
although I would love to have this! |

Ralph... have you seen Broomstick Bass? The thing is, it already has samples and articulations and a style-and-pattern-based playing mode — it’s certainly usable, at least on Windows XP — but it hasn’t been updated since 2006.
I wonder if the owner would consider selling it to someone who could bring it up to date, and if it would be a big head start on a JamBass module? In a 2008 KVR post, Sven Bornemark wrote, “It's been extremely hard for me to make my programmers accept the task of updating BB to become IntelMac and Vista compatible. I have asked and asked... And I'm still asking.” I think that’s the last he’s said about it. |

The sounds are not the core issue. The heart of JB is the A.I., which is melody-based and thus quite different from the drum logic. However, once we get back to it, we may opt for an initial release or beta release w/ sounds to get it out faster. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Ralph is the plan for Jambassist to be style/player model similar to Jamstix? If so, who are some of the players you would like to see modeled? I'd vote for Jeff Berlin, Tony Levin, Jaco, Stu Hamm & Geddy Lee. Just curious who you would like to see. |

Bass players don't stand out stylistically in everyday music as clearly as drummers so JB will be far more style-focused. However, we have a few concepts for recognizable player models. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I wouldn't want too much of standout styles per say, but more of fitting in with the groove and being in the right places like a good bassist does....give a song what it needs, rather than a hoggish overly busy style. Though I suppose it would have a complexity level adjustment.
As a guitar player, I play bass for my own music and try to think like a bass player or wear my bass cap so to speak. That is not simply follow along only to the root chords like a guitarist woukd think, but walk up to, land on and pass through with tastey but subtle runs; but not trample all over a piece like a herd of elephants. |

..a a long-time customer of Jamstix since way back in the day I think I could offer some feedback as to a beta of any Bass VST you might produce.
...and one suggestion already is perhaps make Bass (drum map style) Maps for the different articulations trigger keys of the common Bass VST out there- like Kontakt Scarbee Pre Bass, Jazz, and MM Bass as well as Trillian.. |
