Hi There,
Very interested in getting JS2.
However, I am very short of space on my hard drive and have all my samples on an external drive.
Can I locate the Samples for JS2 on a different drive to the main program.
Cheers |

Yes, you can move the 'data' folder after the installation wherever you'd like. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Ooooh, that was good to hear Ralph.
I like to keep a tidy program partition and a separate audio partition.
I could not see an obvious way of moving the data folder in options, so I did the following: (This is the fairly idiot proof version)
1. Copy the data folder to chosen partition or drive and rename it Jamstix2Data
2. Rename the old data folder zzzData
3. Make a copy of Jamstix2.ini called zzzJamstix2.ini
4. Use notepad to edit the jamstix2.ini file so that the datapath points at the new Jamstix2Data folder. Save.
5. Try out Jamstix2 again. If OK, you can delete the old data folder.
6. If not OK, then remove the zzz's from file and folder, allowing overwrite of the edited .ini file.
Thank you Ralph for your work.
Feel free to edit or delete this post if it is rubbish. |

The easy version of that procedure, for those confident in windows fiddling is:
1. Move the data folder to your preferred location.
2. Edit the datapath entry in jamstix2.ini to point to it.
3. Er, that's it. |

Another way is to just move the folder and then start Jamstix which will ask you for the new location. This saves you the hand-editing of the ini file. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hmm
Thought I had followed these instructions and JS has asked me for the new path, but all my sounds are missing.
I attempted a bit of 'trial and error' before I found this thread and think the 'error' part might be winning out at the moment!
At one stage I moved just the Samples folder from original jamstix and the Sounds folder from JS2 and think that I may not have put them back correctly.
Can anyone tell me what the correct structure is within JS2 (or how else to fix this... ) |

You can only move the 'data' folder, not subfolders within it. Please search your hard drive for the 'sounds' folder and place it inside of the 'data' folder. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Yeah - I finally realised that, but too late!
So I have a sub-folder called sounds, but only 3 things in it (which I think may have come from the point where I 're-installed the lastest update'). Should all my JS2 samples be in the sounds folder? (if so, I think I may have deleted the wrong version somewhere along the way...) |

| Just a question out of curiosity -- I originally installed to the shared VST folder I set up for Cubase 4, so can I just move the entire "jamstix2" folder to another location like other VSTi plugins (and of course add the path to Cubase's list of VST folders so that Cubase can find it?) |

OK, I seem to have found the right version of 'sounds' and put it back in Data - JS2 is finding it but some sounds are missing in most of the kits I've tried. Could these be the JS1 samples? If so, where do I have to put the JS1 data for it to be found?
I still want JS1 to function in some old projects if that makes any difference to anything... |

Some examples of my missing / complete kits:
Kit: Jamstix 2 - Bright (XL) ~ 16 sounds missing, inc:
Tom - 8" DP2 (and 12, 13 & 16")
Snare - 14 x 4 Premier MC Maple (and bounce, rimshot and sidestick)
Crash - 18" Signal A DP2
Also other hihats and cymbols, all DP2.
Kit: Jamstix 2 - High and dry ~ all present and correct
Kit : Jamstix 1 ~ nothing displays in kit contents. 'Load' does nothing.
Kit: Brush Kit (XL) ~ 13 sounds misssing, inc:
Crash brush - 16" JP
HiHat foot - 13" BP (and other hihats)
Snare sidestick - 14" Birch DP1
I originally installed DP1, DP2, snarepack and Brushpack before JS2 was out, so I guess that steers me back to the JS1 data. I've attempted to put this back as I think it was to start with, but JS2 still isn't finding it. Would be eaier just to delete and re-instal JS1 and packs again?
Any help appreciated.... |

Yes, you need to install the JS1 sounds and Paks. There are two ways:
a) if you still have JS1 and the Paks installed, simply copy or move all the files from the 'samples' folder of the Jamstix1 folder to the 'sounds' folder of your Jamstix2 folder.
or
b) use 'Install Pak' in the Jamstix 2 to load each RXP file for the JS1 sounds and Paks. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
