Please let us know what functions should get a keyboard shortcut to speed up the workflow for you.

When you add the copy and paste function to the arranger window. Shortcuts for these would be good.

Sometimes you may want to past the same bar multiple times

locking a bar in the arranger would be cool.

preview shortcut (for fills, ending, intro) would also be good.

a right click shortcut (to get to submenus) may also be useful.

hi there
i really would appreciate if you could map the shortcuts to keyboard keys, if that`s possible ? like if you press for example the f button, jamstix plays a fill or something like that
would that be possible at all ?

I use Cubase SX which by default normally takes any keystrokes instead of the VSTi, unless you turn off Always on Top, so personally I do not tend to use keys that much in VSTi's.

However, as I tend to use the arranger most of the time, a useful feature would be to be able to right click on a bar and get a pull down menu something to the one below:

Intro/Fill/Ending
Select (ie. make it active for that rythm)
Reset
Mute
Lock

From a workflow perspective, I may want to mute a bar, reset the one next to it and lock the next one. Going to and from the bottom right of the arranger to set mute, then go to the bar I want to mute and clicking there, and all the way back to the bottom corner to select reset, etc, etc.

Yes, we thought about expanding the FIE screen to include Mute, Lock and Reset

Sounds like the right click will continue to open the FIE window, from your reply. My suggestion is that a pop up menu appears and you can then either select FIE and get the FIE window or you select one of the other options and the menu disappears and the bar is set accordingly. If I right click on the bar, and then the FIE window opens and then I have to select Mute and then click ok to close the window, this will be a worse situation than the current functionality, from a workflow perpective.

I agree - too many clicks are required with the current dialog box approach. The idea with shortcuts is to minimize steps and obviate handling the mouse. One key insert operations would be the fastest way to work - eg press F and get a random fill (which you can edit if necessary later) or press E (or Control-E) and insert an ending in one click.

That's what we'll do.

Some food for thought about key strokes for the arranger, verses the mouse. You need to be able to highlight the bar you want to edit and this will typically be quicker with the mouse. I would prefer to use the mouse to right click and select Mute/Lock/Select from pull down menu and move on than in some way highlight the bar with the mouse, then look down at the keyboard and find ALT-M for mute (or whatever).....seems better to use the mouse solely in this scenerio due to the way the arranger is designed. ie. if the pop up menu had the following it would cater for random FIE

Select FIE (ie. brings up window)
Random Fill (ie. sets to fill with random fill selected)
Select (ie. sets bar to that rythm line)
Reset
Mute
Lock

This would be much quicker than using keystrokes as it is 2 clicks, as apposed to one click and 2 keys (having looked down and found them after selecting the bar with the mouse)

We're thinking of doing both: extended FIE screen + shortcuts. Also, I don't think we need 'Select' in the FIE because that would be the default left-click mode in the arranger anyway.

Hi,
Cubase SX has the nice way for keyboard shortcuts.
A simple dialog which has most of the functions listed, and the user may assign or not any shortcut to any functions, and the way to save/delete that as a preset.
Ask a little bit more to implement though, but no so much people unhappy I guess...

Cheers,
RW

Trouble is that plugins are at the mercy of the host which intercepts keyboard shortcuts first.
