Hey all,
After reinstalling everything I had Jamstix working 100% . But I still seem to have a problem changing kits. It might be that I'm just not doing things the correct way so let me know the correct proceedure. So here's the senario:
1. Working on a session with a client. I always put down a basic jamstix groove using the multi outs in Reaper. Then we start to work on the tracking, guitars, bass, keys, vox etc
2. Ok so far no probs. Now we are into the mixing/arranging stage where I try to get everything sounding good with all the other tracks. Lot's of compressing, EQing, reverb etc etc...... I think you know the drill.
3. So after spending a couple of hours on the drums... me thinks.....mmmm.... Perhaps another kit would sound better with this mix. So I open up the kit window and I preview some other kits, and find something I like. I hit load and now find that the multi outs are not right any more. Usually the Ambience track has disappeared. Sometimes the ride and cymbals are combined, sometimes the ambience is now combined with the ride.... weird shit.
4. So I think, hey.. I understand Reaper's channel routing so I check the routing to various track. For example the "Ambience" track receiving it's input from the jamstix track on channels 11/12 etc..... But there is nothing coming out of 11/12???? I try channing the Ambience Audo Output number etc... no change.
5. So I think I'll just go to the kit window in Jamstix and rebuild the multi out's.... still does not work.... I can go into the various bits of kit and specify what channels they are on,, but I can't specify what channel "Ambience" is sent on. Yep I go to the mixer and specify "Send to last" and specify the number of tracks. If I have 5 tracks for the kit, I specify 6 on the Audio Outputs and make sure Send To Last is enabled. Still no ambience track.
6. Ok so I think bugger this (I'm an Aussie... bugger is a good word to use lol).... I will delete all of the drum tracks I've spent hours EQing and Compressing etc and start afresh. From the Kit window I select Output Routing 8. In the Reaper FX window I select "Build Multichannel Routing....." and 6 channels get created.... not 8??????
So I'm confused and frustrated at not being change kits without messing out my multi outs, and more importantly messing up all my EQing etc. I would also like to understand how Jamstix handles it track assignments better (I know I can change these by left clicking on the kit pieces etc) especially the Ambience track...what goes on there????. I would also like to find out why the "Set Output Routing..." does not work properly.
I'm sure I'm just approaching this wrong.... perhaps one is meant to preview all kits in Downmix mode and then build the track routing... but I feel I'm missing something here..... So here is the question...
What is the correct procedure for changing kits when you already have multi out setup?
Any and all suggestions most welcome.

A workaround - until others more worthy are able to comment - is presumably to change drum sounds in the kit individually and then save as a new kit - which shouldn't mess up routings?
I often find it's the kick and/or snare that need changing - especially making sure they are tuned properly for each song.
Hope your problem gets sorted though. |

Yes you are correct, it's usually the snare and/or the kick that I have to replace. I will try that. One thing I've just noticed is that in Add FX window in Reaper, Jamstix is described as the following:
VSTi: Jamstix 2 (Rayzoon) (12 Out)
Would this account for the fact that I can only get 6 tracks (6 x stereo channels = 12) in the Build Multi channel output.... dialogue box????
Whay would Jamstix be limited to 12 out???? (1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12) ? |

Difficult to say how many were selected as I've been changing the number of outputs to try and get a handle on how Jamstix works. But I've worked out the following:
1. If for example I select a silly number like "16" outputs in the mixer window, Reaper will generate 16 tracks. So I guess this is one key to the puzzle.
2. So I set the outputs to "8" and Reaper builds 8 tracks with the correct routing (as far as I can see) but now no sound.
3. So I delete all the tracks, close Reaper, start a new project, choose Quickstart Rock, now Jamstix does not even follow the bars of the song. Reaper moves along it's time line but Jamstix does not it's time line. The padlock is on.
This is really starting to get me down. I feel like just buying EZDrummer and dropping Jamstix altogether.
I just need some simple instructions on how to change kits while I have already established a mulit out set of tracks. But now Jamstix does not work at all. Help  |

I recommend you select a number of outputs in Jamstix that you want to work with, then close REAPER and reopen it and do a 'Clear Cache And Rescan' of the plugins in REAPER.
Your outputs problems are probably due to the 'Downmix' switch in the Jamstix 2 mixer. If it is on then everything gets mixed down to output #1.
Also, you can avoid messing up a specific mixer state with a new kit by clicking 'Lock Mixer' in the kit load dialog. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
