Hi!

I can import a midi file and then turn it into a style. What difference does it make when JS plays with the midi file as midi groove without turning it into a style or as JS2 style? Is there even one?

I quite don't understand the relationship beetween groove and style, may someone please enlighten me! Smile

Importing a MIDI file via the part menu is best for those who wish to work fully manual and use the 'Silent' style. The MIDI data gets put into the bar buffers and the A.I. has no part in composition.

Using the "Import" style (or groove importer brain element) is best for most users as it still involves the A.I. and you can combine the groove with other brain elements.

'Turn Into A Style' is for those who have hand-edited a groove in the bar editor and wish to use it as a groove template just like the 'Import' style. It's essentially a shortcut for "saving the bar as JS2 groove, loading IMPORT style, loading saved file".

There is no difference in the algorithm whether the groove importer is in MIDI, JS1 or JS2 mode except that the JS2 files include limb assignments whereas MIDI and JS1 files do not.
