Last night I decided to try creating a part myself, from the blank template. Intro was a 2-bar HH count-in, no problem there; then I put down a simple kick/snare pattern & copied it out for about 32 bars (unnecessary, because the part was 8 bars long w/100 repeats...duh...). Anyway, though - 1st play through, my programmed snare hits were all changed to a foot-hat one quarter-beat later.
So...ok, I put them back & switched off the "auto" button. That kept it from changing the snare. I decided to change the kick on every other bar, so I fixed one bar & then copy/pasted that across every even bar (is there an easier way to do this, like copy/paste 2 bars?)
OK, this was close. So now, I want to make parts to flesh out the song structure. The way it's written it basically drops a bar (technically I guess it adds 3), so simple 4-bar reps won't work...my solution was to copy a bar of part A to make a 1-bar pattern with 7 reps. Seems to be ok...I call this part B, and I finish with a 4-bar part C, so now I have:
Intro (2 bar count-in)
part A (8 bar pattern x2)
part B (1 bar pattern x7)
part C (4 bar pattern x1)
But now, more weird behavior: when I track this, I want the opening (1st part A) to be freestyle, and the drums to start on part B. I'll track these separately & edit them together later...so I copy/paste part B and part C so it looks like:
Intro
part B
part C
part A
part B
part C
etc.
BUT - the pasted part B is blank! It played fine after part A - I even went back & repeated the copy/paste, and even tried "paste into" instead, but every time my "part B" pasted blank when inserted between the Intro & part A.
Any ideas? Am I just doing this completely wrong?
[EDIT: the problem is just part B, not part C; however, saw some other weirdness with the bar numbering too...details in your email!]

Please do a 'Save Song' and send me the resulting file so I can check this out.
Concerning copy & paste: use 'Copy' in the bar menu and then 'Paste' in the bar menu, which will ask you how many times you want the bar to be pasted. Make sure you have Jamstix 2.2.1 or later. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Yeah, I actually used that to paste the 1st 32 bars I mentioned. I just couldn't see how to copy 2 bars & paste them, so they alternated.
I'll see about the "Save Song" thing & send it. (Sorry, still pretty much a n00b working with the program...)
[EDIT: Sent! Check it out...definite weirdness there!] |

| BTW, I'm using the current Reaper (just a stereo channel, no multi-outputs this time) on WinXP Pro SP3, fairly recent installation so it should be pretty clean. |
