I am thinking of getting the Simmons E drum kit since it has a USB connection and am interested in knowing if anyone else currently uses an electronic drum kit to trigger JS2?
My main concern is if i load a JS2 kit, can all the intricacies for each drum part be reproduced triggering with an E drum kit? IE: velocity sensitivity so i can hear the sound follow suit when i play hard/soft. I guess that has to do with the actual E drum kit but i want to make certain.

Yes, Jamstix 2 can be triggered via e-drumkit. You can adapt the kit to any key layout and it can handle CC4 hihat pedal pressure, which high-end kits send. I play JS2 a lot using a Roland HD-1 kit when fine-tuning Paks.

I do a lot of R&D, and alpha and beta testing of electronic percussion instruments and peripherals, (both hardware and software). I just really found out about Jamstix through questions we've been getting at eDrumming.com and plan on intalling the demo and evaluating it with various electronic drum kits, instruments and multipads.

It looks really promising, and I'm interested in how it interacts with hi-hat function, cymbal chokes, positional sensing and so forth as well as the more straight forward functionality, as it relates to triggering with electronic percussion. I've been poking around the info I can find here as well.

Once some of the folks at eDrumming.com including myself have had a chance to dig into it, we'll be sure to post some observations and feedback.

The next Beta will have much improved support for the TD-20 module, including:

modified hihat logic of the internal engine to produce realistic responses when the TD-20 sends a CC4 change AFTER a note is hit
routes TD-20 hihat rim notes automatically to the corresponding bow notes
allows hihat splashing
allows cymbal choking the TD-20 way via aftertouch

nice to see (even) more support for e-drums.. I use Jamstix with a Yamaha DTXpress 2 and would love to be able to choke cymbals with that. Is this governed by the brain? ie it doesn't seem to send out any CC or anything yet the brain is reading it and works perfectly with built in sounds.
I'm asking more from a "general rule with drum-brains" perspective than for my kit specifically. Being hardware, though, I imagine each one is different... Confused

I've heard that DTXpress modules do not send any choke signal via MIDI Out. You may want to check your manual (MIDI implementation) on that.
