I'm sure this is the 10.000.000st time this is posted here but I just bought a Mac and life is really sweet with it, especially music making with logic 8...but there is one thing missing: my JAMSTIX!!!
are there any plans to make that awesome tool available for Mac users? it would be just the best of all worlds Smile

until then I will make chillout tunes without drums only,haha
and: I would buy it over again, it's that good!

We are having long-term plans for an OSX version. Until then some users are getting by using Parallel desktop etc. running JS on the Mac.

It runs best on OSX using wine.

well, it's August now so i thought i'd do my bi-annual query on this topic.

Ralph, roughly, how long-term is long-term? are we talking 2 years, 3 years or maybe a year?

We have to solve various issues on the Mac platform and have not migrated all the code to C, yet. There are too many unknowns to properly estimate at this time but it is still our goal to accomplish this.

Just doing my occasional check-in to see where things are at with the mac platform development. It's good to know that it could happen down the road a bit. Jamstix is the one thing I truly miss since moving over to the Mac.

Dewdman... I would be interested in knowing what your setup with WINE. ie. what daw you're working in to and how well it works. I've not really done anything with so that whole space is an unknown. I'm using Logic so i am assuming that wine and jamstix would be problematic anyways (au support).

I suppose I should throw in here. I'm going to be moving to Mac by the end of the year. I'll always have a PC around, but I'd like to run everything on my Mac...

One more new Mac user here.

I'm using Reaper and Logic 8 now but I can't throw away (yet) my XP box while Jamstix is around. It's the ONLY reason I keep it alive. I just wish I could code for MAC just to help a bit. I can't live without JS2. Anyway Ralph, it's still the best piece of software I've ever bought.

yes i just switch over to IMAC also awesome computer and is running protools7.4.2 big learning curve but take it slow comes with BFD lite
But i miss my JAMSTIX 2 very badly cant get use to BFD Crying or Very sad

jamstix works pretty much fine under wine. Personally I use a commercial version of Wine called "crossover mac" and it works. The way I would reccomend using it is only as a midi drum part generator. pipe midi in/out of jamstix and host some kind of drum sampler such as BFD or Superior2 in your Mac DAW. it doesn't matter which DAW you use. It will work with any of them.

Basically, inside wine, the midi ports of your mac are exposed and available to windows programs that are running under wine. So you you can run Reaper, or EnergyXT or some other simple VST hosts under wine. I've also gotten Cantabile to work too. But I prefer to use EnergyXT for this purpose. VSThost will probably also work but I have not tried it and I don't know if it will output midi.

In any case, you can do that and pipe the midi back out to an interrapplication midi port on OSX so that it will show up to your mac DAW that way, then pipe it to your sound source. that is one way

Another way to handle it, if you want to use the sounds of Jamstix, you can use Wineasio in conjunction with JackOSX which will allow you to pipe audio out of Jamstix and it will be available to your DAW...again it will work with any DAW. one downside of this, is that its not sample accurate. But the latency is very very low, so it may be fine. Piping out the midi is not sample accurate either, but its less data to pipe around, so I feel probably a bit more efficient. You can always drag and drop the midi patterns into midi files within wine to save to midi file and then open them in your mac daw too to get completely accurate timing, but frankly you may not have to, the timing is very tight using wine and jamstix.

I wish I could get some of the jamstix expansion packs as only the styles since I basically am not using any of the jamstix sounds, but I will just keep hoping.

hey, i can buy Windows Xp home for about $100.

with that i could run Bootcamp, and thus Jamstix.

is it worth it? what i mean is, aside from the cost of $100, is there any downside to running Jamstix via Bootcamp on my iMac?

i don't like to throw away $100 but if i can run Jamstix properly, it's worth it.

unless the Mac version is like a few months away. which i doubt.

hey, as a Mac guy waiting for the day/year/decade Jamstix goes Mac, here's a simple question:

what's the downside to getting Windows running via Bootcamp and then using Jamstix?

other than the cost of buying Windows XP home sp2, why aren't people doing this?
