Hi -
Having a problem recording tracks in Reaper with JS2 playing along. (I've actually not been using JS2 much, but recently wanted to get back to it. But I digress...)
My partner & I have been working out a couple of new tunes. We jammed along with JS2 in Jam mode just fine, & decided to track. Trouble is, when we hit record JS2's playback suddenly gets really glitchy, meaning it starts spitting out static bursts over the drums. This is while recording 4 tracks & having JS2 play along - NOT recording the drums, just us playing & singing.
It must be something with JS2's output because the noise follows the fader, i.e. if I pull down the channel fader the noise goes down too - fader off, still playing & recording, no noise. Definitely something with the plug's output.
I've optimized some XP settings - this is a fresh reinstall of everything, OS & apps - but that didn't help. (FYI, everything is up-to-date as of today, meaning XP SP3, current Reaper & JS2.) I also tried switching off the GUI & using the basic GUI, but that didn't help either (at least not much, maybe a tad).
Looking at the performance meters, it wasn't really obvious that I was maxing the system or anything - although I suppose it's possible. What's JS2's footprint like in practice? (I know the "systems requirements" - I also know that almost invariably they are on the low side.)
Did some RTFM - I may try the "low RAM" switch & see if that helps - I'm running an Athlon +3800 dual core with 1 GB RAM. I'm also going to try to up it to 2 GB & see if that helps. If anyone has any other suggestions, though, I'd love to hear them.
Thanks! |

| Other system details: running a Sydec Mixtreme card in ASIO mode, 24-bit 48 kHz audio. Had buffer set to 64, changed that to 128 but no change in noise issue. |

OK, will do. FWIW, I backed off the latency to 512 and that seemed to clear it up.
I thought I'd try to benchmark the PC too, just to see where it stands. It's not the most awesome machine out there, but it's not really a slouch either.
I found one at DAWbench.com which uses Reaper - going to try that later. If anyone knows of a better benchmark process, let me know! |
