I have tried out the demo version and was impressed so decided I would buy a full copy. But just before I did I thought I had better see if I could record the output in Sonar 6, glad I tried, I could find no way of doing it, when ever I load Jamstix the record button is missing.
I gather I can export the midi into Sonar but then I loose the benefit if the drum sounds.
Does anybody know how to record the output of Jamstix in a Sonar track.
Thanks |

This is not a Jamstix limitation. The 'classic' hosts, such as Sonar and Cubase, do not allow direct recording of VSTi ouput. Some newer hosts, like REAPER, do let you select a VSTi output as a recording source for an audio track and that works great with Jamstix as well.
Also, Sonar will ignore Jamstix while bouncing or freezing unless there is a MIDI event at the beginning of the Jamstix MIDI track. Again, this is a Sonar limitation, not a missing feature of Jamstix.
Most users never need the audio output and just use Jamstix as is, all the way to final mixdown since Jamstix stores all the pertinent data/arrangement in the host project. If you do need the audio then 'freezing' or 'bouncing' in Sonar will do the trick. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi Guys thanks for the reply I think freezing synth is the way to go when I finally want to do a mix.
FYI I went and purchased the program anyway so now I am waiting for my email so I can get cracking.
Thanks again |

I was just dealing with this yesterday.
So does that mean that with Sonar, it's normal to just have JS work on the fly and re-create the drum track all the way through the tracking process? I guess I expected that when I had "finished" the drum parts, that I would have to export the midi to it's own track.
Ralph, it sounds like you're saying you can export midi if you want, or you can just leave JS to run on the fly all the way through the project. Correct?
Thanks.

Ah, so THAT's why I couldn't freeze Jamstix in Sonar! |
