Killer, truly killer,
First time I fired up Reaper and did two tracks with different sets, drummers, styles and panned them to full right and left sync'd to the clock.
Without the brain function, the result would have been neat but predictable mechanic. You got to try this, and don't think the realism can be achieved with anything else out there without the brain control not to mention the quality of the sets.
This is truly killer, macho killer even...
Peace to all,
John K
and Ralph, thanks for the rapid development and updates |

refining the approach. Try with about 75% pan each channel so there is some overlap in the middle. Santana on steriods. Very powerful workflow.

Hey John,
Thanks for the inspiration! In all the time I've been using Jamstix I never thought of 2 instances. Playing around with the panning is wonderful and it's amazing what a slammin track you can get with 2.

Dirk,
The effect is great. I wanted to pass on another gem you should try if your DAW supports layered vst’s. This was a tip given by the venerable creator of the Reaper DAW. Look at this website:
http://www.reaper.fm/reaplugs/
Master Justin released a freeware sample of the many plugins available in Reaper. Of special interest to drums is his ReaEQ graphic equalizer (then followed with the ReaComp compressor) This a way to put a tunable resonance, or many resonance points to the drums. This is about as close you can get to the Indian drummer tuning the tablas.
Layer the ReaEQ after the drums. You can now use the eq as normal, but try this. Start with the lowest #1 control and change the function to hi pass filter and restrict the bandwidth to almost no octave width. Drag the control across the frequency range to get the right resonance point for the song. You can do the same thing on the high end by changing the filter to a low pass and restricting the octave width to a lowest setting (can get multiple resonance rings this way).
Best to all,
John |
