Hi,

Please bear with me - I'm a Mac professional since 20 years and am unused to the intricacies of Windows XP (I recently installed XP on a partition on my Macbook Pro, for the sole purpose of being able to use Jamstix, no less).

OK, my Jamstix 2 is installed in Programs:Jamstix2. That's the folder with the license file and the fat Data folder with all the drumkits.

Now, when I start the 2.2.1 update .exe, it doesn't seem to be able to figure out where to install the update (a very unusual situation for a Mac OS X user...Wink ). So it wants me to select a folder.

OK, I select the old Jamstix2 folder in the Programs folder, becasue that's where I want the update tp be installed - rather logically, no?

Then the installer complains that the directory doesn't exist!

Well now...

If I instead select the Program folder (where my Jamstix2 folder lives), I'm afraid that the updater will wipe the old folder and by replacing it completely, have me reinstall all the drum pack again, including Bonzo.

So, please, would some kind soul with a pedagogic talent explain as if to a child exactly how to install a Jamstix 2 update with the minimum of fuss?

Thank you!

Best,

Joey

The folder you must specify for the installer is the \jamstix2 folder.

Are you sure you have set the path correctly?

It won't overwrite your Paks. You must select the jamstix2 folder that actually exists.

Thanks Doc,

Well, yes, the Jamstix2 folder in the Programs folder is the only Jamstix folder that 'Find' can, well, find. It contains all the usual files, including the License, the Data folder, and so on.

If I select it and click OK, the path installer in the Select Destination Location window in the Jamstix 2.2.1 then reads:

C:\Program\jamstix2\jamstix2

???

That's when I get the alert "the selected directory doesn't exist" if I proceed. Which is entirely reasonable, since the folder does not, in fact, exist. Why an extra "jamstix2" folder is added is beyond me.

If I delete the second, spurious "\jamstix2" you'd think that everything is fine. But no - I get the alert:

"The folder: C:\Program\jamstix2\ already exists. Would you like to install to that folder anyway?"

That's when I'm afraid that the original contents will be wiped...

Mystery continues...

Best,

Joey

Thanks Ralph,

But as I explained in my reply to Doc above, if I select the Programs:jamstix2 folder from within the 2.2.1 updater, the path becomes

C:\Program\jamstix2\jamstix2

which just doesn't make sense (either to me or the updater.

Best,

Joey

Just select 'program' in the dialog or manually change the path in the edit box so it reads:

C:\Program\jamstix2

Thank you, Ralph!

That worked. Phew!

Any idea why I got those double 'jamstix2' folders when I selected the correct one?

Thanks again!

The installer adds \jamstix2 to whatever is selected in the dialog box.
