Thanks to the excellent tutorial by Ben Vesco, I recently gave the Jamstix demo another shot and really felt like I got somewhere with it this time. However, I still have a few questions...
1. How do you get the drummers in general to chill out a bit? I want variation, but I don't want every bar to be different, which is what it seemed like no mater what drummer/setting I used. Any tips on how to get more subtle differences, even for 'busier' styles like metal?
2. I'm currently using EZD, but I plan to pick up Toontrack's Superior 2.0 when it's released -- will Jamstix be integrated with S2 the way it is with EZD? (Personally, I think you ought to strike a licensing deal with TT, AD, BFD, etc. to integrate your AI/beat construction as a part of their programs, but that's another conversation).
3. How do you remove an instrument from the sound pool? At one point, I kept getting beats with cowbells and I wanted to remove ability for the cowbell to even be selected... I also had trouble removing sections of a beat on occasion -- even after clearing the bar/style, there'd still be a tom fill or something that just wouldn't go away.
4. I've already seen mention on the board of Jamstix 3 -- any estimate on when that may be released? If JS3 comes out two months after I buy JS2, what's the upgrade policy?
That's all for now, though I'm sure to come up with some other questions. Thanks in advance.

Make sure you have the latest 2.2.1 demo which was released a few days ago.

Go to the 'Accent' tab and move the 'Overall' slider left to reduce accents and embellishments of the style and drummer.

Once DFHS2 is out we will make sure it loads into JS2 just as DFHS1 does and also provide mappings for it.

Go to the kit editor and select 'No Sound' for those sounds.

JS3 is far off in the future (>8 months). JS2 owners will get special upgrade pricing for it. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

How do you get a drummer to chill a bit? Whoa that's a tough question.
In this case though, it's easier than reality... on the groove tab, slide the "Complexity" slider way down. Next, on the fill tab, you can do a few things... turn the T-Beat and R-Beat knobs down and also turn the Simple knob up.
You want LESS cowbell? Does the name Bruce Dickinson mean nothing to you? Ok, go to the kit window, right-click on the cowbell (on the bottom right) and when the percussion window comes up, click on the sample filename column (where it says "Cowbell") and choose "NO SOUND". Or you could load a simpler kit where it's not included.
ORRRR... leftt-click on the Cowbell box in the Groove tab and either disable or remove it. That's the easy way, but I went and typed all the other stuff already.
As far as JS3, I think Ralph is just planning for the future. Any big changes now might as well wait for a rewrite/major version. Absolutely don't hold out for that, you'll just miss out what you can do now! |
