I'm relatively new to JS2. So far I have used mainly Charlie. The other drummers are to...how do you say.....well they don't seem as solid as Charlie. Is there a way to get them to be more solid but with their own unique style...that is what I was hoping would be the case.

So far I am extremely impressed with JS2. I have alot to learn about this program am looking forward to when I understand it better.

Try this:

- load a drummer other than 'Charlie'
- go to the 'Accents' tab and move the top slider all the way left to suppress all accents
- go to the fill tab and set the 'Simple' knob in the 'Focus' tab to max or near max.

I tried that and I did notice a difference...however...the sliders & knob would jump back to the original position when the sequencer would run for a period of time with no particular ryhme or reason.

How do I prevent that from happening?

We don't know of any 'jump back'. Let's do this more step-by-step:

- take a groove with Charlie that you like and record a brief MP3 of it
- now select a different drummer, turn down the accent slider and record a brief MP3 of it
- send me both MP3s and tell me what you don't like about the 2nd one.

First..I need to figure out how to export the tracks. I first need to be able to record the drummers into a track and I'm not sure how to do that. I have cakewalk MC4 and have tried to get JS2 to record into a track unsuccessfully. any hints.

That depends on the host. In REAPER it is dead-easy by just selecting VSTi output as the recording input. Other hosts require you to bounce the track or freeze JS2.

I have JS inserted into an audio track. I also have a midi track set up as a click track with midi data for JS to use as a reference.

When I try to record that audio track I get a flat line. I have tried setting up additional tracks for audio and I get the same result.
Also set up a midi track...getting nothing there either.

Not sure about MC4 but in Sonar you'd simply Export Audio. Make sure there is a dummy note at the start of the JS2 MIDI track and at the end or Sonar won't think there is something to play/export.

I must say that I also feel a great fondness for the drummer Charlie. He is such a reliable and understandable guy. When I try the other drummers I start to feel they are doing stuff that needs to be controlled, and they don't always react in the way I would expect.

Ray,

I will spend some time later trying these things. As soon as I have my 2 mp3 tracks I will email them to you.

Charlie is a rock solid drummer. When I have him jam he lays it down like many drummers I have played with in the past. He provides the backbone to the tune.

The other drummers....steve I think....starts out with a lick or two and then retires to the high hat just tapping mainly a funky little pattern....every now and then, he throws in a snare fill but goes back to the high hat & cymbals. The other drummers are basically the same. Mainly staying on the cymbals. I'd fire them if they wer playing like that in my band in a live show.

I think I know what the problem is. Your song power knob is all the way left. Turn it up and the drummers will play more than just hats.

Just got your MP3s and it is very likely as I thought: your song power knob is all the way left. That means you're telling the drummer to play as little as possible. 'Charlie' doesn't listen to that and continues to groove normally but all others will stop kick and snare (depending on how low the song power is). Raise the knob and they will start grooving.

the power knob is the one in the center....when I turn it down, the drummer backs off the snare and goes to a side stick and generally backs off.....

I tried turning it up and switching drummers and they did not seem to improve the groove much at all. I could hear that they were hitting harder, but the snare & bass drum did not become more prominant.

Sorry....I am open to suggestions.
