If you use Savihost it will turn any VSTi into a standalone. Smile

I really like jamstix but don't really use it as much as I would like. What I am into is live performance, and what i would like is a stand alone application that lets me use my behringer fcb 1010 to control parameters like start/stop, bpm, volume, switch between parts in loop mode, the option to play fills on the fly and automatically transition to the next loop part, etc, in real time while I play guitar.
In a perfect world jamstix would have the option to be stand alone and have AudioM8 built in. The music software world is built for the keyboard player. Ableton lets you do some of that but I find it painstakingly time consuming to pre-program what you want when all you want to do is pickup your guitar and 'play with it'.
Sorry about the rant but I guess my creative mind doesn't work like most, its the hassle factor that kills it for me. Stepping down from the soap box now.

I hear what you are saying. Jamstix 2 is a VSTi plugin, which makes it very host-dependent, and a full stand-alone version would give it more freedom. However, much of what you described can be done via liveloops in Jamstix 2, including part switching and instant fills. Start/stop and BPM are host-dependent, though.

I have never been able to get live loops to work properly in ableton. I always have to stop the program to switch parts. Maybe I just haven't figured it out yet. What would you suggest using as a host for someone who has no interest in recording, doesn't what a steep learning curve, and wants to control all aspects of jamstix, start/stop and bpm with a foot-controller.

thanks for your input

I'd use SAVIHost and Liveloops but the start/stop and BPM per controller is something you can't control with it. I don't know a host that can but there might very well be one.

Plogue Bidule will let you transform anything into anything else. And Bidule can be a host as well as a VST in other hosts.

Here's a thread that describes my live layout:

Note that it describes JS 1, not version 2. With version 2, I WOULD use the LiveLoops feature.

This is very interesting and sounds like its what I am looking for. I will have to give Plogue Bidule a try, maybe this weekend if I have enough time. Thanks for the suggestion.
