Hi Ralph. did your copy of BFD2 arrive?
Have you looked into licensing your technology to products like BFD? It would be great to have a small subset of the functionality built into other products. |

No, we haven't gotten it, yet. I'm not sure I want to bug Angus about it at this point since I imagine they are quite busy with the release and the 2.0.2 update... _________________ Ralph Zeuner

+1 on this - Jamstix + BFD2 make what is possibly the most powerful combination available
Would love to see some of this (Especially the "switch to sidestick") behaviour _________________ D

JS2 driving BFD2 can be a heap of fun - some of the FX setups (drive, delay, tincan verb etc) can work very well with the breakbeat grooves. I have been able to get some great feels going just by winding the complexity back on the amen break and letting it rip on some BFD2 setups.
It will be interesting to see how Superior2 shapes up FX wise - Sonalksis FX should be pretty decent and fully recallable mixer setups should be a quantum leap for Toontrack as well. |

So I run it as follows (I'm still using Jamstix 1 - I haven't dug into Jamstix 2 yet - but the same approach should work)
Using Cubase 4:
Load Jamstix VSTi in the Intrument Rack.
Load BFD2 in the Instrument Rack.
Create a Midi Track.
Set the Midi Track Source as "Jamstix" and the destination as "BFD2"
Make sure that the monitor button is highlighted in the Midi track.
Setup Jamstix for "Midi Out Only"
Make sure the groove stuff is turned off in BFD2.
Make sure the Jamstix to BFD2 mappings are correct.
This can be done several ways. Currently I use one of the default mappings on the Jamstix side (like Jamstix Jam Kit) and use the default settings on the BFD2 side, then I create a drum map in cubase to make any needed translations)
Now Jamstix drives BFD2 drum sounds.
I set up BFD2 to have multiple outputs (Kick, Snare, Tom 1, Tom 2, etc) so that I can bounce them to separate audio tracks for ease of mixing within Cubase.
I like this approach better than embedding BFD into Jamstix. One nice option is that I can record the Jamstix Midi output to the midi track, disable Jamstix then tweak the midi in places where its needed. This can then drive BFD2 instead of Jamstix.

Just an FYI that our copy of BFD2 has arrived! As soon as we have a breather, we will test it out with JS2 and create mappings for it that will then find their way into the upcoming 2.2 update. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

awesome - thanks!
Its been said here hundreds of times, but once more - this is the best supported product I have ever seen.
I work in IT and deal with 100s of apps, and no one comes close. |

I,m defintely having my share of difficulties with BFD2 so far - Looking for any suggestions:
1) Using BFD2's Midi Learn feature is not working as I cant seem to get certain kits peices to play even though they light up indicating they are being triggered
2). There seems to be a definite problem with double hits, odd timing behaviour and random weirdness using JS2 midi out only to BFD2
I'm thinking this is most likely a BFD2 issue but wondering if anybody here has some tips to smooth things out
I use Sonar PE 6.21
I love the sound of BFD2 but it is much more complicated to get up and running for me anyway - Hopefully a little time will cure all ills....... _________________ D
