|
|
Hey guys, I own a motif ES7, which I have configured to work right now with a software arranger program called One Man Band. OMB7.1 actually. Its really nice, but the drumming always leaves so much to be desired. Either way, OMB sends the midi info to my ES via midi to track 10 which is where I always like to leave my drum track. Well, I do like the sounds of the ES drums and what I also like is the fact that I can split each drum to its own midi track within the Motif ES's sequencer. You know to add special effects and all. But my main question is this: with Jamstix, can I use the motif ES drums in a similar way that OMB does?
If you need more clarification please let me know. Thanks in advance guys, and all I can say is that this program rocks !!! _________________ Musikman

I am using cubase sx2. Its working really nice. By the way, im using the Mlan16e option of the Motif ES. Also, im recording midi into the Sequencer of the Motif ES. And all the audio tracks are being recorded into Cubase. So I have the Motif ES slaved to cubase for playback and recording. _________________ Musikman

You should be able to add a MIDI track and set its input to Jamstix and its output to the port that goes to the Motif. In the Jamstix mapping tab, set the MIDI Out Channel to 10.
Note that MIDI-Out in the Jamstix demo is limited to bars 1 through 4. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Awsome !!! This means that I will be able to use all the Drumkits of my Motif ES7. That is so cool. Now, Since Jamstix will be sending its midi note output to my Motif ES sequencer, track 10, then that means, that I will be able to record that Midi Note data in the Motif's sequencer and play it back once its been recorded along with the rest of my song. I like that idea. Then send it back to cubase as Audio via Mlan once im ready to do my mixdown. Im going to try all this on the weekend. I hope it all works. Even if its just for 4 bars. If it works, man, im hooked !!!!

Zauni,
So lets say I have a midi track in cubase all set up. Its input will be coming from what ever I chose right? it can be a midi track from my ES, or it could be an Audio track from cubase right? So, thats what feeds Jamstix the information of how to react to the incoming signal. Whether its midi or audio right.
Now, jamstix output will be as midi note data to trigger the drum samples in my Motif ES via Track 10 and what ever midi port I want. But Jamstix does output midi note data in realtime or does it do this after the jam is finished. I hope you understand, if not, please let me know. _________________ Musikman

Yes, there's a switch to control whether it jams with MIDI or audio. Also, you use the audioM8 plugin that comes with Jamstix in an audio track when you want to jam with audio.

Yes, Jamstix outputs its MIDI data in real-time. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Guys, I just wanna let you guys know that this program truly rocks big time !! I have never played my Motif ES this much in a long time. My fingers are sore but loving it.. I was even able to get the ES to record the first four bars of Jamstix midi output. WHich is what I really wanted to do all along. I did it by following the instructions in the PDF file, but instead of having only two midi tracks in cubase, I had to add a third midi track. ON this midi track for the input, I selected Jamstix as the input source and the Output I selected the Motif ES Mlan midi port one through Midi Channel 10 which is the channel in the Motif's SONG sequencer that I wanted to record the midi info to.
It worked awsome. ONce the midi info was in the Motif, I could chose what ever drumkit I wished. And since the midi is in GM format, MOst the ES kits worked like a charm. Oh man, this is so awsome because I can use what I have, and use the samples that come with JS also. Im so happy and thankfull for this amazing program.
THis whole weekend I have been playing this program so much that family that came home and listened, could not believe that I didnt have a drummer in my studio. When they came and saw it was my PC, they were amazed.... This is truly a blessing for me. I feel more inspired to jam and play with my motif now. Thanks Ralph. I hope and pray God blesses you company and everyone that works with you. You guys truly deserve it !! _________________ Musikman
