Go to the bar in question, click the FILL button above the brain and hit the rounded arrow next to the bar editor to have JS2 preview the bar in a loop. While it is playing you can alter fill controls and hear the effects. You can also just hit COMP to hear variations of your current setting. Making a fill shorter is accomplished with the T-Beat and R-Beat buttons (T if it is a transition fill, R if it is a repetition fill). You can also manually delete notes of the fill in the bar editor to adjust its length as desired.

Hi

I've tried that and i play the loop of the bar but i can't hear the drum roll bit which i hear in full playback. I can't seem to locate the drum roll in the bar loop which i want to slow down or make not so aggressive. Can't quiet work out what i'm doing wrong.

Please save the project via 'Save Song' in the JS2 song menu and send me the file as well as the bar number for the fill in question so I can check this out here.

Are you in the correct mode for the 'Fill'?

Make sure by cycling through your 'Groove', 'Accent' and 'Fill' modes just to be sure.
