|
|
I have made a drumtrack excersize where Jamstix changes time signatures every eighth bar.
Style:”Custom rock”
Drummer: „Noah“
Drumkit: „Natural Kit“ from metal pak
Host sequencer: Cubase 4.1
Bar 1-8: 4/4
Bar 9-16 3/4
Bar 17-24 4/4
Bar 25-32 12/8
Bar 33-40 4/4
Bar 41-48 7/8
Bar 49-57 4/4
Bar 58-65 9/8
Some of the grooves sounds a bit dull to me. Like jamstix just cuts off a beat in ex. 3/4 compared to 4/4. I havn’t done much with JS2 other than made a song with parts in each time signature and placed time signature changes in the right bars in the host. I am doing fine, when i make drumtracks in 4/4, but i want to learn ways to make drumtracks in odd time signatures
You can ask for the song as a .mp3 file, a Cubase-project file .cpr and a Jamstix Song- file .j2d, and i will send them your support mail. It it quite small.
Thanking you in advance

The final groove depends on the style setting. Some grooves will just be 'cut off' when going from 4/4 to 3/4. I recommend you select a 3/4 style for that part, such as a waltz, or try the 'Prog Metal' style from MetalPak, if you own it. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Let's say i working on a rock tune, and i want the drumtrack in the style of "custom rock". I wouldn't think, the drums could change to a waltz in the middle of the song. Maybe. I think, there is the same problem when i play grooves in some of the other time signatures.
Are there good grooves in odd meters in the "prog metal" style? I recently bought it, but i work on a rock tune and prog metal sounds to me like something with a lot of double kick drum pedals. Again, i could change the drummer.
Can i do anything using the "groove weights" menu? I haven't used it yet.
It could be cool if JS could play, let's say breakbeats in 9/8 |

Don't let the word 'Waltz' scare you. A 'waltz' is simply a form of dance for a 3/4 rhythm. This is far closer than a 'rock groove', which by definition is always a 4/4 since it has a backbeat (snare on 2,4).
There are few defined rhythms for odd time sigs, such as 'Rock' for 4/4 so what JS2 does with those sigs is trying to fit the selected style into the time sig, much as a human drummer would do. Many styles can be influenced by groove weights so please experiment with those a bit to see what tickles your fancy. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
