Yes, this behavior is normal. Whenever playback starts in a bar, the contents of the playback buffer (which is used for MIDI drag/drop) must be cleared. Stopping before the end of a bar will leave parts of its playback buffer empty. You should always play whatever you want to export (bar, part, song) all the way through before doing so.

The need for clearing the bar stems from the way the brain operates as well as its realtime play filters. Things are just way, way more complex than with your standard, static MIDI pattern playback logic in other drum modules.
