when i import a kick or snare pattern into js many times the cymbal work and the fill work suffers - the program to my mind loses its spontaneity

a cool thing would be let js do its thing, then import a kick pattern and lock it down, choosing with or without accents. perhaps it could be a under the "delete entire limb" section.

the reason for locking it down is that many times the complexity sliders control both kick and snare

if you could lock one and have the other change complexity, and vice versa that would be pretty cool.

my 2 cnts

If you you use the 'custom rock' or 'custom metal' styles and in the groove tab, you can click the kick and snare areas and click disable. If you also remove the kick accents in the 'accent' tab it shouldn't change your basic groove. It will still mess with velocities and slight timing variations though.

ok i get what you mean now - thanks. i wish this was available for the other metal styles! its kinda frustrating to have certain basic parameters for one style and have those paraeters omitted in other styles

it is a workaround though, thanks.

- i still stand by my request - that it would be cool have a great groove going, then import a cool kick midi pattern into the groove. probably nobody would use it but me though so it is what it is i guess.

thx proto

I do agree, despite the existence of a workaround, that this would be a very useful feature.

thanks for input D. i have some time now over holidays which means i am having alot fun with jamstix! some more thoughts/observations:

as far as i know, the disable kick/snare is on the right track, but its a limited work around - only works for 2 styles - custom rock and custom metal.

also if you disable the kick, and hit recompose, it will erase all data even if the kick or snare part is disabled. would it be possible to disable kick, and recompose other parts. while maintaining the kick pattern?

this would provide excellent variation, while at the same time, provide usefull repetition. if everything varies, all the time, the listener wonders what its all about.

my request for the midi kick/snare import feature stems from not having lasso capability in jamstix. in other words, if one could create by hand a 4 bar kick pattern and be able to lasso in in js, control drag or repeat the pattern, one wouldn't really need the import feature. as it stands now, i would have to place every kick in by hand. thats a piece of work on the jamstix grid, especially if its hemiola type stuff. another option would be to have a control click function and be able to select multiple grid spaces.

happy holidays!
