I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to describe this appropriately but here goes...

I'm working on a song that starts with initial section that consists a heavily distorted guitars, bass and drums. It is followed by quiter part that consists of clean electric and accoustic guitars, bass and drums. If I put M8 on the track with the heavy guitars I can observe Jamstix reacting as expected. Once this section is done and the track is silent until the final where the heavy guitars again come in.

Now what I want to do is have Jamstix react similarly to the clean section, so to do so I add M8 to that track as well. The only affect is negative in that Jamstix no longer responds to the heavy section as it did when only one instance of M8 was going.

It seems that M8 uses a summing apporach in that all instances of M8 will equal 1. So if I have one instance of M8 going than that one instance will take full control of Jamstix. If I have two instances than each contributes 50%, 3 would contrinute 33% and so on. (I might be totally wrong on this by the way but this is the impression that I get). This approach might be okay for songs that are tracked fully, but it does cause some problems for me...

If I am correct in how this works I guess I could do a workaround in which I send all tracks (except the Jamstix track) to a mix track, add M8 and then silence the output of that track. Seems like a lot of work...

When using two audioM8 they will actually fight each other and report their respective velocities to the same variable at a rapid rate. We'll look into it.

If I use sends to route the tracks I want to use M8 to sense to an empty track and add m8 to this track and then silence the track it does what I want... I wouldn't call this a bug, but it is probably something that should be aware of.

Ralph,

I just wanted to mention that I use AudioM8 in Plogue Bidule as a handy way to view levels. As you may know, Bidule currently de-emphasizes the reliance on graphical widgets, so AudioM8 fills a gap. More to the point here, I do occasionally add more than one M8 on a patchbay, but since Bidule fully supports the direct audio-in of Jamstix, I don't actually use AudioM8 to feed velocity info in to Jamstix. Just FYI.

the best way i found for using two or more inputs for jamstic is to set up an aux send and inster m8 into it then send all audio inputs to that channel.
