Hello all. I am guitarist looking for a better drum program than the one I am using now(Beatcraft). Beatcraft is simple to use but I like what I see and hear so far with Jamstix.I play Metal and the metal pak is something I am very interested in.Before I buy,can I ask a few things here?Good.

1. Can I use Jamstix as a standalone, meaning can I program patterns in it using my mouse and save the pattern/song as an mp3 to import into my Mixcraft?Or do I have to have a Midi Keyboard to trigger sounds?

I dont have Pro-Tools or Reason or Sonar and would like to keep the learing curve to a minimum if possible. So if anyone can give me the lowdown, that would be great as far as use. My needs are simple:
Composing metal type songs that I can write riffs over on my guitar.Any help would awesome.

You can use the free SAVIHost to make a Jamstix 2 standalone so you won't need a bigger host like Sonar or ProTools. Not sure if SAVI can save to wave but there is also MiniHost, which can do that.

Try the Jamstix 2 demo and download SAVIHost.exe (google for it) then rename it to jamstix2_demo.exe and place it where jamstix2_demo.dll is. Now you can run jamstix2_demo.exe and experiment with it.

You get the demo.exe here:
http://www.rayzoon.com/jamstix2_demo.html

When you run the .exe a jamstix2.dll is generated. Then you can proceed as advised by Ralph.

Apparently your windows installation has (as of default) "hide known filetypes" on, so remove the .exe from the jamstix2_demo.exe and try again.
