PostPosted: Mon Sep 17, 2007 3:20 pm    Post subject: Which website for my songs? Reply with quote

Hi all
I'm thinking about plucking up the courage to put some of my songs on one of the websites which you all seem to use, e.g. MySpace, Soundclick, etc..
I'm not looking for fame and fortune (too old for that) but just to add a little extra interest for me and maybe get a bit of feedback.
Can anyone tell me what the differences are between the various sites or any recommendations?
For example, are they geared towards particular audiences, do they charge for the service, etc..
Also, do I have to protect my copyright and how?

Any advice or guidance much appreciated.

Hi, Mack,

I'm surprised there's been no response to your question! I'll give it a shot... I personally use/recommend soundclick.com. There are plenty of other options available but soundclick always seems to work and doesn't download ad/spyware to your pc. I can't say the same about myspace, however.

Just my $0.02 worth,

KC

Check out my site at Garageband, com.
I'ts everything I need. I use it as a proving ground for my stuff. I take and impliment the valuable feedback before posting my finished improved songs again on GB or other sites.

I also use soundclick. It's free and fast and you even get statistics and charts with it. Also for free. Although you can get a lot more when you pay: but for me the free service is MORE than enough!!! Never had a problem with it and lots of people can listen to your music without any bandwitch limits and so on.

Thanks for the replies guys, I thought I'd asked a forbidden question.
I guess soundclick sounds a good bet. I now just need the balls to jump in and do it.
Thanks again.

Anybody want to comment on the copyright thing though?

P.S. Marine Boy- listened to your tracks and particularly liked the acoustic-based tracks, very musical and quite original IMHO. You're not that far from me so who knows, might catch a gig?

I also like GB very much because it is a real community: you can get a feedback but you have to review other people's songs as well. Unfortunately you do not have real statistics for free. I DON'T like myspace: it looks like a spam box! Soundclick is not bad at all but I miss the reviews.

With 2 USDollars to the UK £, GB is good value for me at the moment. I agree to a certain extent about myspace but with a little knowledge of HTML (available free on the web) you can customise your "space" somewhat and remove a significant amount of the spam. It's free. everybody's heard of it, a lot of celebrities use it, it appears to be a "cool" site for those into popular culture at the moment (my daughters)and is on the tip of everybody's tongue (it is here in UK anyway). A downside is you can only post 4 songs. Yes you've guessed it, I have slung together a site (for free Laughing ), check out my my space site at......... www.myspace.com/porkear

Yes I KNOW the photos are cringeworthy but i'm working on it Embarassed

I've just checked my last post after a while and note with interest that the references to the website "space that is mine" and the link to it have been deleted and resists all attempts at correction (but the link remains at the bottom!?). I only wanted to share my art with other members....could somebody in the know please advise?

We didn't censor it and I'm not sure what happened. I've just restored the link in your original post and it took fine. You may also want to correct your signature as it has the '.com' missing.

Maybe you have a Internet security software running on your PC that filters text sent?

I've really enjoyed using myspace and have sold a few CDs from there.

I don't like the compression limit for mp3s to 128kbps. But perhaps that encourages fans to buy the better quality CDs or mp3s.

see www link below - The Track 'Storm' was recently completed and uses JS2
