Is this basically self explanitory. Will it just force that beat to have a hit on it, but pay no attention to what kind of hit??

Just I'm using it, and it doesn't seem to place hits on it all the time, can it be overidden by the drummer or style??

The action taken on a hit depends on the style. Most styles will play kick/crash. Some will play kick/hats (i.e. Modern Funk) and some will play snare/crash (i.e., Reggae).

Hits can be suppressed by other style or drummer logic. For example: a high simplifier in the 'Charlie' model will suppress hits on non-aligned 16ths.
