Hi all, could anybody pleae explain the GrooveMonkee importing feature? GrooveMonkee typically give you midi files formatted for EZdrummer, BFD, or General Midi, So when you say you support GrooveMonkee import what exactly does this mean?
I did notice that General MIDI files from Groove Monkee do not map exactly into Jamstix2, When I import GM files (from groove monkee) into Jamstix there are sometimes one or two notes Missing or mapped differently, I know this because if I import the MIDI file into Cubase and assign it to a GM Kit, and play it against JamStix they are slightly different sometimes. Is this what you mean by supporting GrooveMonkee files?
Can I now select these files and instead of selecting GM when importing now select Groove Monkee?
Many Thanks for clarifying and being so supportive.

The MIDI import can be done via the part menu, the 'Import' style or the 'Add Groove Importer' function of the brain menu.
The 2.1 update ensures that JS2 can read the MIDI files at all, it does not guarantee that all notes are mapped since JS2 does not support the full GM keyset (neither do BFD, EZDrummer etc.) since it includes percussive sounds as well as odd stuff like 'Electric Snare'. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Fwiw I've been having good success importing EZdrummer format files, so you might check that variety of GrooveMonkee files.
No guarantees but worth a try.

Ok I am officially confuised now; If I load a GM MIDI file from groove monkee into Cubase or Kore 2 and then assign it to my Kontakt 2 GM Drum Kit, the groove sounds ok (well it give me a certain groove) but when I load the same MIDI file into Jamstix and use Kontakt 2 as my exernal VST (with the GM Kit loaded) it sounds different. The differences are subtle but it changes the groove so much.
On further inspection I noticed that MIDI files don't actully map directly into the external VST loaded, they are actually mapped directly to Jamstix slots and then we fill these slots with appropriate sounds (from our external vst) so it is actually jamstix doing the translation of GM files rather than a direct pass through. I take it you do this to be able to control your accents and fills and grooves e.t.c. which is fine but I have found that Jamstix is not completely following the GM model? It seems to be making some sort of calculation rather than direct mapping, is there anyway I can force a jamstix slot to listen to a particular MIDI note? or a GM compatible switch? The only GM compatibility offered now is when you put Jamstix into drum module mode which is not what I need. I need to be able to translate MIDI files accurately and still use the JamStix brain.
The most common display of this problem is when the GM file uses the second kick drum, Jamstix regularly translates this to a hihat sound.
Many Thanks..

Switch to drum module mode, check 'Map GM' and then go back to your jam mode. JS2 will retain the GM mapping selection and your 2nd kick should work fine. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
