Hi Ralph,
JS2 is really looking good - sensational in fact .
However, my biggest issue, which has caused me to abandon numerous changes to projects more than anything else is that, for instance, you're trying to tweek an intro or some other part - let's say adjust the "Simple" focus for an intro. You select the part (by clicking on it), change the relevant brain setting, click on the drop-down and set it to "recompose" (I'm finding that not all brain setting changes cause an automatic recompose - have I got a setting wrong?), rewind your sequencer to a point before the part in question and replay through the part.
OK, you let JS2 do it's stuff but don't like the result so (in my case) go and adjust the brain setting again. Trouble is, you've stopped the sequencer/JS2 just after the recomposed part and end up twiddling the brain controls for the next (i.e. wrong) part which you were perfectly happy with. Now maybe I'm just useless here but this has caught me out SO many times I'm really tearing my hair out because I then don't know what the previous settings were for the part I didn't want to change and, of course, there's no way to undo anything in JS2. OK, maybe I should lock parts which I'm happy with?
I think that part of the confusion comes from the fact you can have a given part selected in JS2 (and therefore displayed in the brain) which is different from the song position your sequencer is currently located to; and on top of this you can select a totally different JS2 part from it's drop down menu to, say, trigger recomposition, or something else. I think, for me at least, the three-way asynchronity is just too much to cope with! I have really spent hours trying to come to terms with this and have no option but to can the project in the fear I'll lose my last "good" composition.
I have to second all the cries for an "undo" function as there's just too much to get wrong in this sophisticated program.
Sorry to be so verbose but I do feel I'm struggling on this and it's currently taking 90% of my attention versus getting on with the music.
Cheers,
Tim. _________________ Core 2 E6600, 2GB RAM, 2x320 SATA II HD

Sorry about your frustration. We'll find ways to aid in this. One thing will be an 'Undo' function that we are working on and we'll also think about additional tools to avoid recomposing the wrong part.
You should not have to do 'Recompose' manually if the AUTO button is checked and the BAR button is off.
My preferred way to work on parts is to grab one bar of the part and loop it in JS2 with the rounded arrow icon to the left of the bar editor. This way I can fiddle with the knobs and sliders and not have to worry about affecting other parts or where the sequencer is positioned. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks Ralph,
This is more a question of me not using all the available features effectively. I'm certainly going to try looping a bar as you suggest. I'll also check my settngs for the BAR and AUTO buttons.
Sound / arrangement wise, I'm already getting results which are better than JS1 so I'm mighty impressed
Thanks for your help,

| Thats what I do. I loop a bar, and keep adjusting, or whatever until I get close to what I want. Then save it. If I like the beat now, theres a good chance I'll use it again, or want to tweak it later. |
