i'm just starting to work on composing the drum parts to go along to a tune i wrote on guitar (i'm not a drummer, so Jamstix really is a God-send). I've started by just focusing on the first two bars of the verse (have the two bars playing in loop mode in my host). i roughly kind of have the kick drum and snare hits landing where i'd like for these two bars. i'd now like to move on to getting a beat going that sounds good for the hi-hat. what i was wondering was, is there a way in jamstix that I can import and audition different hi-hat patterns (but only hi-ht patterns, in this particular case), without having the kick-drum or snare getting changed in any way in the process?

thanks in advance for any and all help Smile .

There are several ways:

1)
- left-click on the snare and kick element of the brain and mute them
- lock all the kick/snare notes in the bar

2)
- save the kick/snare pattern that you have now ('Save Bar')
- left-click on the snare and kick element of the brain and mute them
- use the 'Add' submenu of the brain to add a 'Groove Importer' and select your saved kick/snare groove

3)
Use the 'Jamstix Classic' style to build your groove

Thanks for responding so quick! Smile

Ok, when I look at the brain section, these are the things I'm seeing listed:

Groove
Main Kick
8th Kick
16th Kick
Snare
Main Hats
8th Hats
16th Hats
Feel
Open Hats
Hat Dynamics
Redirection
Skipped Kicks
Power Hand
Ride Bell
Auto Snare
Reduction

First question. When I left click over any of these items, it says "disable/remove." Selecting "disable" is the same thing as selecting "mute," right?

Second question. To mute the kick drum in this example, would I select "disable" just on the one called "main kick," or would I need to select "disable" on:
-main kick
-8th kick
-16th kick
and
-Skipped kicks

Thanks for your help!

Sorry about that, yes, it's 'Disable'.

In your example, you'd need to disable Main Kick, 8th Kick and 16th Kick.

no prob Smile

to lock all the kick and snare notes in the bar, do I move my mouse cursor over each individual hit and then select "locked" in the menu that pops up (menu choices I'm seeing in the bottom of the pop-up are:locked, shuffled, single, double, and bounce), or do I select the button that says "locked" that is located at the top right of the bar editor (or do I do both)?

when I select to save a bar, a microsoft window pops up that says "save bar." In the bottom of this pop-up, it has two empty boxes. The first box is "file name" (which I know is for naming what I want to call my bar). The second empty box is "save as type." For this second box, should I put something, or should I leave it blank?

and thanks again!

Yes, or, if you want to lock all events you currently have you can choose 'Lock All Events' in the locking submenu of the bar editor menu.

Just leave it blank.
