I see in a few places that CC4 is supported in Jamstix 2, but cannot find anywhere to enable it.
I'm currently using JS2 mostly as a sound module and triggering it with an e-kit (Yamaha DTXpress II) and the hihat controller is not closing the hats for me. Do I have to map this somewhere?
This functionality works in most other samplers etc so I know the pedal itself is outputting HH info (presumably CC4).
Any help would be appreciated!

not trying to push here, I'm just used to seeing rapid answers on this forum. I just want to say that if this is being ignored as a RTFM question please say so and I will re-read it yet again Smile

Sorry about that, I missed your post.

CC4 should work by default. Do you see the yellow MIDI LED in the song sheet light up when you move the foot pedal?

Uncheck 'Map GM Input' and it should work fine.

First I checked the thing you mentioned and the midi light is lighting up when i use the hh controller pedal; it's also lighting up in the kit window image and I've verified in the kit edit window that the closed sample is loaded and set to the midi note my brain is putting out..
So then saw your post and that worked! With a bit of a twist..Step by step of how this is working:
I Unpress the Map GM button - hihat functions as desired, all is fine
Change kit- hihat ceases to work right, same as original issue- not "closing"
Press Map GM to turn on - hihat functions well again
Change kit - lose hihat
Unpress Map GM button- hihat functions well again
etetc
In other words, the Map GM button is currently functioning as a one-click, "make hihats work" button which needs to be pressed after kit is changed.
Just in case it matters to the programming, I think it's important to have CC4 available in Map GM mode too. Most of the sampled kits I play with my e-drums are based on the GM mapping and it made me die a bit inside when it looked like the hihat solution was to disable the Map GM mode when e-drumming.

Thanks a lot for the help!

This will be fixed in the next update so it will work in GM mode as well.

Cool! Thanks Ralph.
Just to be clear, you noticed that it currently does work whether Map GM is enabled or disabled, but ceases to work if you change the kit. Once the kit is changed you must press the Map GM button regardless of whether it is currently on or off.

Now that my hihat is working so perfectly, I spent a couple of hours just playing last night and have to say that most of these kits sound great! Very playable and responsive.
A couple of other things came up that I'd like to clarify my understanding of. I see that the newer kits have 50% closed hat samples and support for 25 and 75 if you load a sample. There is a note assigned to this half closed sample so I assume (much like the closed hat) my e-drum brain would have to interpret the HH controller signal and change the note in order to provide Jamstix with the info it needs? In other words it is the brain, and not Jamstix that interprets the CC4 info.
The half closed works wonderfully if I draw in the CC in Cubase and\or place the 50% note in the piano roll.
In a similar vein, I'm trying to get cymbal choke to work. Is this supported in JS (is it a "VST responsibilty"), or is it again more a limitation\responsibility of my e-brain?

Thanks a lot. I know the JS focus is not on e-drumming so I appreciate the time.

I'm more than happy to help as we are looking into putting more focus on e-drumming in the future.

Your e-drum brain does NOT have to send the 25% and 75%. What happens is that the JS2 brain receives the CC4 controller and then checks what sounds it has available to satisfy it. So, if you have a kit that only has closed/semi/open then a CC4 of 90 would cause it to use the semi sound but if you have a 25% sound in the kit then that one will be used.
It's totally transparent to the user.

Cymbal choking via e-drum is not yet implemented.

Concerning sensitivity: I encourage you to try out the new 'Min Vol' and 'Max Vol' knobs in the sound editor to adjust the sensitivity to your liking. For example: if you take a snare and turn 'Min Vol' all the way left then the low velocity layers will be quieter, which increases the dynamic range.
