I notice when i change the toms within a bar after loading a Style and then adjust the power settings, they revert back to the original toms set for the loaded style.

IE: I load Surf Toms for the style and switch all the LH and RH toms from tom1 to tom3. Now i adjust the 'power' fader for the toms to give it more power. When i playback, all the toms switch back to 'tom1'.

And one question; I've asked this before but i forget how to do this:

using the above example of wanting to change the LH and RH toms from tom1 to tom3, is there a way to do this in one shot as opposed to clicking on each hit and making the change?

One convenient way of doing this would be to have it available in the limb options when clicking on the limb.
Click on limb>>select entire limb>> now any drum sound you select regardless of which 'hit' is selected will affect the whole limb.

Changing anything in the brain causes a recompose, which in turn moves the toms back to tom 1.

The best way is to use 'Redirection' in the groove brain (most drummer mode;s have it). Set it to 'Tom1', 'Tom3' and max amount.

Hmmm.....is there anyway to change this behavior? I figure there will be many times i will want to change certain brain settings as the song progresses and it would be inconvenient if drum hit changes (if any) made will resort back to their original settings.

We'll see what we can do about this in the future.
