|
|
HI people, yesterday I've purchased jamstix2 and I've been poking around since then. Reading through the forum already gave me many hints on how to proceed to build songs with grooves etc. and finally got some exciting results out of it.
now I have a question:
what's the best/quickest way to have jamstix process an already written drum part? I have a whole song already written in cubase4 and I'd like to have jamstix spice up the drum track (wich is quantized to the beat and not too expressive - electronic music), without changing too much of it, just some embellishments here and there, maybe tryout different drummers, substitute a couple of ugly fills and have some groove applied to it.
is it possible to do it without chopping the original drum score part by part and importing or building it back into jamstix editor? any workflow suggestions for the task?
thanks, cheers

I think the topic called "Quick way of getting things done" in this forum will work for you. Here's a direct link to it:

Big Pictire: 1) save every unique bar from your song that you want JS2 to embellish, 2) use the Style called "import" and, one-by-one for as many unique bars as you have, import the midi bar that you saved -- and JS2 will use that midi bar as a basis for that particular part.
This coincept has worked well for me so far... |

thanks for the tip, I already checked that thread thoroughly and there are great hints on working with parts. What I wanted to know is if there was a procedure to process a whole song without importing every single section into a part in jamsitx. that would mean to basically build back the song again.
i was thinking of making a full midi file of the whole song and load it in but i got weird results so far, mostly the hat just disappears, it's mapped correctly but won't play or appear on the part editor either.. |

I was able to import a complete midi file and then apply a drummer.
- Create a new part
- Select a drummer
- choose the arrow next to the part and import midi file and the file will load. My midi file had 137 bars and the info for the part had 137 bars and 1 repetitions after I did the import.
- press play in your sequencer and the drummer attributes will be applied.
I like to use the James Stix drummer because the first pass thru playing the file doesn't make much changes and so when you tweak some of the groove settings then you can really hear the difference.
What I also noticed is that any changes to the drummer or groove causes me to have to re-import my mid file again, so if you can...set up your drummer settings before you import the midi file.
Not sure I will use the resulting Jamstix song that I created as a result of importing a whole song midi file but I think with some patience and tweaking the groove and accent settings I might end up with something I can use.

thanks a lot for the tip Gary, this is something I will definitely check out.
I reckon that creating a new track is fairly easy (now that I know the program a little better) and gives good results pretty quickly, but having jamstix2 process an already arranged song is a bit more clumsy, maybe this could be improved in some way in the future?
I already have a couple of songs made with jamstix, I'll post a link to them as soon as they're mixed and mastered, so you all can comment my improvements with this thingie..
cheers,
