I bought MOR (the virtual instrument from East-West) last week and wonder how easy it would be to run the drum kits from JS2.
Is it just a case of setting up the correct mappings? |

If your host allows sending MIDI data from JS to MOR (like C4 e.g.) it's only the mapping (JS itself uses mostly GM mapping, but you can easily roll your own) you have to adapt.
Check MIDI out only in the mixer so JS doesn't load its own samples.
If you want to load MOR inside of JS (subhosting) you'll have to try yourself, normally it should work. The mapping has to be correct, too.
Cheers,

Many thanks Rhino, I'll try this out. I use Cubase 4, and so I guess it should be possible to run MOR from Jamstix as you say. I've never tried to use any external drums before.
I've used the Jamstix kits exclusively so far, because I find them to have excellent sound quality. But having paid good money for MOR I thought it would be a pity not to get some use out of those kits too, which also sound good to my ears. Not being skilled at programming drums myself I tend to rely on Jamstix.
By the way, I really appreciated your drumsound tutorial. I hope you can share more of your gems with us.

Hi Mike,
thanks, glad you found something useful !
In the case of C4 it's dead easy to trigger an external module.
Load both, set JS to "MIDI out only" to save RAM if you wish, or you might just as well let JS load its own sounds if you want to mix'n'match with MOR.
In that case you have to take care of which sounds you hear in the output channels of the VSTis.
Create a MIDI channel leading to MOR, set JS as "MIDI In" in the inspector and click the little yellow speaker icon in that channel or you won't hear anything.
That's all - less than a minute.
The only thing left to do is check if the two mappings correspond and adjust if necessary from the kit page in JS, then save that mapping for further use.
Have fun,
Rhino |

| I thought you might like to know Rhino, your advice worked perfectly, and I now have MOR drums controlled by Jamstix. I just set it running and away it goes with the usual great jam arrangement. |
