|
|
Hi,
I realized that there is a "skin" folder in the data directory. So now, if Ralph is ready to provide the file format of those graphic files lying in the skin folder (they have a cryptic dat extension), it should be possible to create custom skins for jamstix2 by replacing the original files. As I hate to say it but: jamstix2 is great as a peace of software but the default graphics still give me pain.

| Did you try and switch off the background graphics via the options screen? |

yes, I did this, but it obviously just removes the backgrounds. the colors, font-styling, and the pictures/graphic elements are still there, of course, and I really do not like the looks. it does not stop me from using this great software, of course, but the quality of GUI is definitely not in pair with the quality of the rest of the plugin (underlying concepts, coding, sound-quality etc.). Actually, I am quite sure that if Ralph provided the necessary information there would be some talented people designing a much better GUI even for free (as it is usually the case with popular plugins which have skinning capabilities - see e.g. what great skins appeared for wusikstation)

We haven't had the time to deal with skinning. So much to do, so little time... _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Ralph, I do realize this. But why do you not just reveal the file format for the graphics in the skin folder, or, if it is something proprietary, change it to something non-proprietary (like png files) in the next update, and let the users become creative? |

The files are just good ol' BMPs. The reason we don't encourage skinning is because there are hard-coded transparency settings so you're very limited on what you can edit without weird results. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

wow, so it's just standard BMPs. So that means that if - for the sake of alpha chanel transparency - you would change file format to png, one could have a perfectly skinned app |

I must correct myself. Only the two background files (bk1.dat and bk2.dat) are in BMP format. All other files are streamed DIB data. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
