|
|
I'm sure I saw another post mentioning this, but I can't find it now .
Running Tracktion, the audio output of JS2 breaks up. Closing the JS GUI cures the problem, but that makes it a bit difficult to use, of course.
Machine is a P4 3 GHz, IGb RAM OS Win XP SP1 - never had a problem of this nature before and certainly not with JS1. Windows reports an average of around 20% CPU usage, with peaks up to 30%. _________________ Graeme

That was the thread - I knew I'd seen it somewhere.
I missed a couple of the betas - obviously, including the one where this problem vanished - so it's a problem that has been with me since the release of JS2.
I really don't know if it's a Tracktion or a Jamstix problem - but it does make the combination more than a little difficult to use. OTOH, I have become extremely disillusioned with Tracktion 3 - there are a number of niggling bugs in it - so I'm thinking or re-installing v2. Maybey JS2 will work better with that. _________________ Graeme

It's beta v2.0.9 that fixed this problem for a couple of T3 users (inc me) try asking Ralph if he'll mail you that particular update.

No need - I have it here. I just never got around to installing it - the patches were coming in quicker than I could change them . I'll install it and see how it goes.

Yes - I'd heard the rumour as well, so it's probably worth the wait. Fortunately, I'm not doing much for myself at the moment - I'm too busy sorting out my new mobile recording rig - so a delay of a couple or more weeks is the least of my problems . _________________ Graeme

OK - back in harness and looking at v2.0.16.
Firstly, the CPU figure I gave in my original post was that determined by Tracktion, not Windows. Whereas the Tracktion figure is not that high, the Windows figures (which are, presumably, correct) can be much higher. The figures below are those reported by Windows, the Tracktion figure stays around 20-30 % .
This problem is still with me. Hiding the GUI clears it, but that's not much of a solution when you want to change parameters. I've also noticed that the tempo has a huge effect. For example;
Pattern running (funk) at 140 bpm with GUI showing CPU = 75/80 %
As above but tempo at 100 BPM CPU = 40%
Turn GUI off 140 BPM CPU = 20%
As above 100 BPM CPU = 20 %
There's obviously a problem with updating the GUI - as updates become faster, the CPU figure rises dramatically.
It's a good job I don't need JS2 at the moment, because - for me - it's basically unusable. Hopefully it will be fixed by the time I need it . _________________ Graeme

After being way off target before, I am now almost certain I have the proper fix for this -- which actually is a basic Windows XP audio performance tweak:
1. Right-click "My Computer", select "Properties" in the context menu.
2. Click the "Advanced" tab, and then click "Settings" button in the "Performance" area.
3. Click the next "Advanced" tab.
4. In the "Processor Scheduling" area, click the "Background Services" radio button to optimise performance for background services -- of which ASIO drivers unfortunately is one.
This is the only way to make ASIO drivers behave nicely in Windows XP, and I usually have this option checked.
However, for some reason it wasn't, I had no serious performance problems until Jamstix 2 came along, and so I simply forgot to check the setting!
Hope this helps.
(If some people can confirm this, it probably deserves to be in a sticky somewhere...) |

hey im having the same audio breaking up thing happen with my laptop, when i close the jamstix 2 gui everything is ok but when i open it it just cuts out constantly. i opened up the windows task manager and the cubase vst performance box and they both show like 9 to 12 percent of use. they show the same even when i have the jamstix 2 gui open just that i get the constant audio break up when the gui is open but as soon as i close it it plays fine no more drop outs. running the latest version beta 2.0.16
and this is with just a quickstart song cant get any further because the drop out is so bad and its hard to use jamstix with out the gui
here are the spec on my laptop
pentium 4-m 2.4 ghz
2 gigs of ram
2 100 gig hardrives.
ati mobility radeon 7500
cubase vst/32 5.2
if you need any more info just let me know |

Confirmed here, thank you
I was despairing about this problem as the glitchy playback problem was even more pronounced with J2 v2.0.16, it was all but unusable in T3.

Nice catch, Pethu.
My processor priority was incorrect - like you, I had not had a problem until JS2 came along and I never even thought to check it.
All seems to be working now, so I hope I'm right in saying this is a problem that has been fixed. _________________ Graeme
