I intend on using JS2 for Jazz only.

trio (gtr, bs drms) or maybe adding organ or piano.

I will be using DFH-C&V and the JS2 kits.

Is it worth getting the XL version as it looks like it is rock and electronic kits?

however it does have more snares and brushes.

Maybe you only need the Brush kit: at this moment it's not available seperately, but it used to be and will be again (I think) in the near future. Read more about it here:

To get an impression of the Brush kit you could listen to the tune Carter's dream, which I made yesterday with JS2 and the Brush kit only. This (imho) awesome drumtrack was 'created' in a few minutes... I only added reverb.
