As I have been playing around with this, I've come to realize that I don't know a whole heck of a lot about drumming. Not that you really need to with Jamstix but I can't help to think I could use it better if a new a bit more about the fundamentals of drumming and a little more on terminalology and how/when to use different techniques.
For example, I have absoutely no idea what a "snare ghost", or a "sidestick" on the snare, or even a "flam" is. Having a better understanding of this type of stuf might help me a bit more creative in creating my own rythms as I have some sounds in patterns in my head but I'm just not sure how a drummer might do it.
If you know of any websites or other reference material that might help one out in this area it would be greatly appreciated. _________________ darcyb62 |

Snare ghosts
Quiet notes played on the snare drum (in addition to the normal loud snare notes) by holding the stick low over the snare and letting the stick fall out of your left hand and picking it back up on the rebound. Gives it that buzzy, busy feel used in funk-related music.
Sidestick
Playing the snare by laying the drum stick on the snare so that the bottom is on the head and the tip is on the metal rim of the snare. It is then played by lifting the stick slightly and then hitting the rim with the top of the stick.
Flams
A technique to play a snare or tom with both sticks but a slight delay between the first and the second stick (about a 32nd note). Accentuates the sound. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
