ZauniMeister,
I've managed to get the Program to show signal thruout but I'm not able to get it to just give me a solid jamb with Sonar 4 Pro.... Can you give me a detailed setup to be able to accomplish the same sounding groove as on your Tutorial #1 with the Woman playing the Rhodes??? I'd be very Grateful for this setup as this was the absolute selling point for me. Thanks Chief! Gratefully, NC Wildman Laughing Exclamation

When you say 'Signal thru' what do you mean?

It seems I can see all the signal in Audio using the M8 & using midi, I seem to have the ability to start & reset but the drums that come thru are not following my playing & when I can hear them I've tried to follow the intesity or whatever it's called & by nature I'm a pretty dynamic keyboardist & so a great deal of the time it's fully on....
Once again, I'm no dummy & I feel certain that I'm just missing something here to be able to, "Free Jam" & really get a feel for this Program.... I'd asked you yesterday if you could give me the precise settings used in the Free Jam Tutorial to set my system up & see if I can get close to the same response..... Can you help me on that???? Thanks Ralph.... NC Wildman

I can't give you the exact settings of the Tutorial Free Jam because that was a long time ago and I can't possibly remember every slider.

Here's the basics:

  • Open Sonar and load Jamstix. Since you are going to use the MIDI keyboard to jam you do not need audioM8 at all.
  • Enable Input Echo on the Jamstix MIDI track
  • Open Jamstix GUI and hit some keys on your keyboard. You should see the yellow LED in the right bottom corner of Jamstix light up when you play and the velocity slider should move.
  • Move the 'Min Velocity' slider in the Jam Control Panel up to about 60% to reduce the dynamic range for now
  • Click 'Free Jam', arm a track for recording in Sonar and hit RECORD in Sonar.
  • After a few beats, Jamstix will start to play drums in synch with Sonar's tempo (it will not synch to your tempo)
  • Experiment with the funkiness, complexity and accentuation sliders to change the way Jamstix plays

This step by step approach is very helpful. Do I need to enable Input Echo on the Jamstix MIDI track when jamming with an Audio track?

Could you list the basic steps for jamming with live audio and jamming with pre-recorded audio?

Also, I just bought DirectiXer and don't seem to be getting all the sounds when trying to record to MIDI. I have read all the posts on this but I think I'm missing a step. Could you list the basic steps for recording the Jam to MIDI using the drums module that came with Jamstix? This would be a big help to this MIDIdiot Embarassed

I'm running Sonar PE latest version with an Edirol FA-101 FireWire Audio Capture Interface. I do not have record what U hear capabilities with this interface. (If that makes a difference)

Thanks

No problem. Please look in the manual in your jamstix folder, it has step-by-step instructions for Sonar Free Jam. You may also want to use the Find feature in the PDF version.

We are currently working on extending and improving these instructions and will let you know as soon as it's done for Sonar.

Thank you for your patience!

Ralph,
I've done exactly what you layed out & I heard drums for a moment & I hit record & as I mentioned, I play pretty snappy on the boards meaning the Velocity Slider went right to full. I reset everything & set the slider to about 20% & although I can see all the input signal you've mentioned, I'm not getting any grooves to play along with???? Got any idea what I could be doing wrong?

Two things come to mind:

- make sure your latency is under 40ms
- make sure the checkbox next to 'Jam Start/Stop' in the control panel of the jam tab is unchecked.

If it still doesn't work, send me a screenshot of the jam tab at the moment of non-play to support@rayzoon.com
