Hi,

I recently downloaded the Jamstix demo. I like it a quite a lot so far and am considering purchasing it. However, I'd like to sort out a few issues before making the purchase.

1. The only vsti host I have is Savihost and that is how I intend to use JS. Are there any disadvantages to using Savihost as oppose to another host (e.g. Sonar) that I should be aware of?

I searched for this on the forum but did not come across anything specific. I did note, however, that when using minihost, for example, "audio jam" is not possible. Is there anything like this that I should be aware of with respect to Savihost?

2. Can someone confirm the fact that (given that I will be using Savihost) it will not be possible for me to alter the tempo of the drumbeats with the rate at which I play my instrument in a jam session (i.e. guitar via mic and mixer. I do not intend on using Midi).

3. I’m trying to figure out how to use the AudioM8 plugin. I took a look at the manual. It states that I need to “insert” the plugin into my sequencer or host. I have no idea what this means. Will someone please provide me with detailed step-by-step instructions on how to achieve this with savihost. That is, how do I employ AudioM8 within JS running on savihost. There are instruction on this in the manual with respect to other applications such as Cubase, but not Savihost. Any help will be appreciated.

I thank you in advance.

The disadvantages of SAVIHost are not Jamstix-specific. SAVI is a VERY limited host: no multi tracks, no effects, no bussing, no nothing really Smile

But it is very great to make Jamstix a stand-alone application. If you just want a virtual drummer to play then SAVI will work fine.

That's one great thing about SAVI: it has audio-to-plugin routing unlike MiniHost so you can have your guitar signal influence Jamstix.

Confirmed. Jamstix is always slaved to the host tempo.

audioM8 is not needed for SAVIHost at all. SAVI routes audio directly to Jamstix. Simply select the proper wave input device in SAVI and set Jamstix to 'Jam With Audio'.

Ralph, thank you very much for the quick and thorough response. I played around with JS some more with what you said in mind (esp regarding audioM8).

I now have a new issue:

After a jam, I switch to manual in order to fine-tune the arrangement. I go to the arrangement tab and when I click on a bar or (rewind) and try to play back the jam from that particular bar (or beginning) it doesn't work. The arrangement just restarts where it left off. why is this?

That's because SAVIHost does not have transport controls and Jamstix is always slaved to the host. You can double-click the tempo display in SAVI to make it go back to bar 1 but that's all you can do.

Ah, I see...this is a bit of a problem. Too bad because I really like JS and want to take advantage of the group-buy. I have an old version (3) of fruity loops. Will that do? Any FL problems I should be aware of?

Thanks for being so straightforward Ralph.

FL3 may work but I'm not sure.

You could also run JS in MiniHost where you can click on bar numbers in the JS arranger to change song position. If you need audio input, try running audioM8 in SAVIHost at the same time. It will still send its data to the JS in MiniHost automatically.
