I`m planing to join the groupbuy.I have mac mini intel. This is a very promosing product for me.I have downloaded the demo but I could not record the midi out to my hardware seq.(motif es6) I have installed the live lite 6.07 as a host on parallels desktop running xp pro.My main sequencer is cubase st 4 but I don`t wanna install that on this virtual machine. All I wanna do is to have jamstix to play my motif es drum sounds and record the output to cubase on mac or motif`s own sequencer.Could you please give me a simple workflow for me to achieve what I need.I don`t know much about ableton live lite also.I have just installed that to host the jamstix demo.I work at a non-music related job and very little time left for me to make music and learn the details about the softwares I use even if the music is the main thing in my life. Not to make money of it is my choice and this corrupt imperialist system eats my time.
peace
Burak

Welcome to the boards. Smile
I don´t know what you´re talking about concerning "imperialist system eating your time" (what a terrible scenario!)...,
but what I do know (as an Ableton Live 6 user myself) is that Live is not the right choice as a host when you want to record the Midi Out of Jamstix in order to feed another sequencer (or motif in your case), simply because Live´s Midi recording abilities are still buggy.
There are workarounds for this, but IMO far too complicated to discuss for evaluation purposes of Jamstix.
If you own Cubase I´d say go with Cubase. You will have no problem recording Jamstix´Midi Out in Cubase and do whatever you like with the Midi Data.

Also, remember that the Jamstix demo is limited in MIDI output/export to bars 1 through 4.

In Cubase, you'd add a MIDI track with input=Jamstix output=MIDI port to Motif to get real-time playing of the Motif by Jamstix.

Thank you for your replies
I would definitely buy if I had it working on parallels desktop.Due to steinberg key I can't run the cubase on the parallels. The mac os uses the key.Do you know if there is a cheap vst sequencer that can host jamstix and would do what I ask.I am really impressed with your program I just need a jamstix host

Try the free SAVIHost (you can find it in the kvraudio.com database). Download it and place it where your 'jamstix demo.dll' is and rename the savihost.exe to 'jamstix demo.exe'. You now have a stand-alone Jamstix that can run without a host. Just select the desired WAV and MIDI devices in its control menu and SAVIHost will route the MIDI output of Jamstix to the selected MIDI output port so you can send it to the Motif. Just remember the demo MIDI output will stop after bar 4.

The real problem with this is midi and digital audio support through Parallels. I have been watching and waiting and they have no real direction on this yet.

Without asio/midi support within Parallels you don't have the ability to route the audio or midi information anywhere. If it's only audio Soundflower might work but I think latency would be an issue. Once it supports midi a simple pc rewire host running Jamstix all running with a Parallels instance would you let you run Jamstix as a VST from a Mac host.

I'm not holding my breath on this but I am keeping my fingers crossed...

ps... I too am a MAC neophyte so I might be completely off base with this response.

thank you for the savihost tip.It does what i need with a quick test.I use yamaha's usb inteface with the parallels, and it works fine. Now with the full version(groupbuy) I can record the output of the jamstix tothe motif's sequencer.I haven't tried but I may even be able to record the output straight to the cubase on mac os.I will let you know when I'm able to play the full version.
thank you for your support.

Hi I am an happy jammer with jamstix on mac intel platform using the parallels desktop.I am able to trigger the ez drummer and any other drum module straight on cubase studio4 on mac and also record the midi output straight to the cubase.Jamstix drum sounds are very nice but too demanding for the parallels desktop if I want to use it together with cubase on mac.If I want to use the jamstix`s sounds I record the output of firewire 410 to the AW16g hard disk recorder and then transfer it to cubase.I guess these are good news for the mac intel owners who also heve an usb midi interface and a good soundcard. With a more powerful mac than mine you may even record the jamstix audio output to the preferred sequencer on mac.Thank you Ralph for this great application and the groupbuy offer and thanks to the the people who joined the groupbuy making this great application so affordable.
Peace
Burak Very Happy

Hi Burak,

thank you for sharing your experiences. This was very, very interesting for me. So i tried to get jamstix to work within Parallels Desktop Demo V3 and Ableton Live Demo 6.0.7. All works fine but i can't get a midi configuration where the midi-out from parallels/Live arrives the OSX-Sequencer (also Live 6.0.7 but the OSX-version) ... What is your solution? Are you going through your external midi-interface connecting MIDI-OUT with MIDI-IN? Or have you a software solution within your mac?
Would you give me a hint, please.

Thanks again for sharing,
and best regards,
Ebse.

Hi Ebse,
I run Jamstix on parallels with the SAVIhost as a stand alone intrument (tip given by Ralph). It`s free and very funktional. It was hard to do with Live lite 6 that said it has its own midi problems.I also have motif es which has usb midi interface, and I guess any usb midi would do...,I also have m-audio firewire410 external soundcard and 1x1 midi interface and it is connected to the motif`s regular midi in-out ports. On parallells desktop(savihost) the midi comunication is done by motif`s usb midi interface,so what comes out of jamstix goes to firewire410 connected to the regular 5-pin ports of the motif. So when I choose midi in as firewire410 on cubase on mac os side, I am able to record straight from jamstix to the cubase studio4 and I am able to trigger the addictive drums,ez drummer or any other drum program directly in cubase(mac osx).Probably you need a separate usb midi interface just for parallels since you cannot use the same interface at the same time for different platforms.I hope this gives the information you seek.

peace
Burak

Hi Burak,
thank you for your reply!
I'm a little bit too buys thes days, so i couldn`t check it out.
I hoped you could tell me something about a software-solution inside the mac.
Yes, i have two midi-interfaces too and i hope i have time to check them this weekend.

What a pitty that there's no native Mac-Version of jamstix ...
What a great plug-in.

Thans again, Burak.

happy music,
Ebse.
