I am now up and running with Cubase 4. My previous version was SL1, so I don't know if the "bar offset" feature in my project set up is new to Cubase 4 or just new to me.

It got me thinking though. It has been stated that jamstix likes a couple of bars to "sinc up", and I have therefore always left a couple of bars muted at the beginning for that reason.

Will there be a way in Jamstix 2 to offset the bar # to compensate for muted bars at the beginning? It's not really convenient to be at bar one in Cubase, and bar 3 in Jamstix. Not even convenient for Jamstix to say Im on bar 8 of my song, when really I'm on bar 6. Since we often count bars by fours or eights for song structure, it really is a good idea to know what bar you are really on.

So the question is, will Jamstix 2 be able to offest the bar numbers so we can start the numbering at bar three for example. Or better yet, will Jamstix 2 sync faster so that the muting of the first couple of bars will no longer be necessary?

Thanks,
Geoff

(Edit) I meant to post this in the "Jamstix 2 information" thread.

Are you aware that you can already do this?
In the Arrangement Tab down on the left side you can change the start bar of Jamstix.
Given you set 2 bars offset in Cubase and Start Bar = 2 in Jamstix there should be absolutely no counting problem anymore.
Cubase will precount 2 bars and Jamstix will start at zero then.

Doc, I think Geoff is talking about a bar offset between Cubase and Jamstix. The 'Start Bar' in the arranger controls only what bar is used to calculate the fills from.

Geoff, do you have a line in your Jamstix.ini file like 'BarOffset=2'?
If so, remove it to make the bar counting of JS and Cubase identical.

Unfortunately, I have to ask - where in the Jamstix.ini file?

Thanks,
Geoff

I have a file called Jamstix configuration settings - is that it? It has similar lines in notepad such as:

[General]
AudioTrim=100
First103=0
Outputs=8
MIDIOutChannel=1
Skill=1
VoiceReduction=6
AudioInSmoothing=4296

I have nothing called Jamstix.ini.

( am looking at a little older version on Jamstix on my laptop here at work - no more than 6 months old though. The up to date version ins on my desktop at home. . . Probably not relevant?)

That's the file I need. It is called jamstix.ini but your 'friendly' Windows XP hides the extension from you and calls it a configuration file because of your Explorer settings.

Thanks. I've wondered about that file before when it was refered to in the forum. No Baroffset line though (or anything that sounds similar).

Can you send me the file to support[at]rayzoon.com?

Also, just to confirm, when Cubase says Bar 1, Jamstix says Bar 3, right?
