|
|
Hi,
When using the Jamstix Jam Kit mapping, the 14" Metal snare cuts off with a loud pop. (I didn't think to try that snare in another mapping, until right now. ) This ONLY happens if it's sustain is set to full. If you back off the sustain a bit, the pop goes away.
Can anyone else duplicate that behavior?
Certainly no biggy, just wanted to let you know.
OK, just tried that snare with another mapping, it's popping and does NOT pop when a different snare is selected, so it must be the sample.

I can confirm the 'dirt' in the sample. However, it only happens for me if voice reduction is at min or 2. For 3 and higher, it is fine. With JS 1.6 there is really no need to run voice reduction at 3 or less. I recommend using level 6 (default). _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Ralph,
Thanks for the always prompt reply.
But... I had to set Voice Reduction to 14, yes 14, to get the pop to stop! Now you've done it... now I have to re-read the manual about Voice Reduction!
TTFN,

We'll fix the sample in the next update. Using a slightly reduced sustain is probably the best work-around for now. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Ralph,
Yeah, I just read the section, the very short section of the manual describing Voice Reduction - and I have no idea what it means! (Is there a polyphony limit to Jamstix or is that just to overcome PC limitations?) I assume (careful) it means some previosly triggered sounds would be cut off early, to make room for new sounds being triggered, right? Nah, I don't want that to happen. So, I'll definitely be using the sustain reduction instead.
You're the greatest,

Yes, the VR determines how quickly voices are removed when the CPU usage is high enough. I never put it below level 6, though. Lower levels are only needed for certain jazzy ride cymbal washes under certain conditions. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Did this sample ever get fixed? I'm running 1.71 and still hear the "dirt". Thanks. |

It hasn't gotten fixed but should play fine with voice reduction at level 6 or higher. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I find I have to shorten the length to get it to play without crackles. Changing the voice reduction slider doesn't seem to make much difference. It sounds ok now but a bit shorter...
I'm sure it didn't used to do this when I originally bought JS, as I made some songs with it at that time that I rendered to a WAV file without any problems. Is it a subsequent update that has corrupted the sample in some way?
It would be nice to have the fixed sample and play it at the correct length if at all possible. Is that possible please? Thanks for the response, much appreciated. |

Unzip into the 'samples' folder of your Jamstix folder and overwrite the existing files. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
