|
|
Hello,
It may seem very dumb but what on earth means "Jamstix crashes when DEP in XP SP2 is enabled for all applications" And the solution is likewise cryptic: Click Start ( Cubase?), click Run ( where, what? ) type sysdm.cpl
etc etc ...Could you please tell me in normal English what I should do, in what windows or pop-ups, where and how when Jamstix crashes and the only solution is a hard return ( the red button!) How to prevent this? Wait until january when Jamstix2 is available? Become an ICT specialist before continuing being a simple musician again? Who can tell me?

- Click Start in the Windows XP taskbar, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
- On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
- On the Data Execution Prevention tab, click "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only"
- Click OK and you're done.
Please follow these simple steps precisely, it's quick and painless. Let me know if you need screenshots as an aid. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hello Zauni,
When I click OK I get a windows message that sysdm.clp cannot be found, and then what do I do? For your information, the computer on which I am running Cubase and Jamstix is not connected to the internet. But I don't know if that matters.

Alternate instructions:
- click Start->Settings->Control Panel
- On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
- On the Data Execution Prevention tab, click "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only"
- Click OK and you're done.
Hope this helps. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Sorry Start is available on my computer and than I can choose some other options but Settings isn't there. Configuratiescherm Taakbalk en Menu Start are there but where to go? You probably don't know either. All these Dutch words don't seem to match with where you want me to go. Furthermore I experience the strangest things like a snare and bass drum on the same output channel ( I'm using Toontracks, Superior as Vsti) It worked well for the Beatles way back in the sixties but I like a bit more control over my mix. Somehow there must be something wrong with the key mapping and outputs but I cannot figure out what the problem is because each time I click somewhere everything crashes and the red button is the only way out! Thus not so much "happy drumming" for the time being. I'll wait for Jamstix2 and pray in the meantime that things will be better than.
Greetings from Holland

Settings is the option that has an icon that looks like a tablet with a pen writing on it. Click on that and then the first option in the submenu is the control panel.
As far the outputs go: if you are using Cubase it may be easier if you load DFHS separate from Jamstix into the instrument rack and then connect them with a MIDI track that has input=jamstix and output=DFHS. That way you can more easily control the multiple outputs of DFHS. It can also be done within Jamstix but I'm trying to keep thing simple. Also, in thr above scenario, if you are not using a GM layout in DFHS, make sure to load a DFHS mapping into Jamstix but check 'MIDI Out Only' next to the mapping load button. This will cause Jamstix to load the DFHS-specific key mapping but not the DFHS module itself (since you have it separately within Cubase). _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hello Ralph,
It works, sounds better, and the "Settings" where already as they should be, so that wasn't the problem.
Someone who's more into the windows stuff helped me out. But thanks for your suggestions and patience. You guys made a great tool that's for sure!
