Sorry to ask what must be a common question but my circumstances may be somewhat different than most: I am getting a new music-only dedicated computer in which to install all music programs.

Here's the catch ... I cannot locate my original Jamstix installation files on the old system. Must have dumped them. Can I install 1.7 as-is on the new system without it finding an older version? I do still have the old system complete with Jamstix installed. If necessary could the installation of 1.7 on the new system be directed to locate the previous install on the old system via LAN or otherwise?

Here's how to do it:

- copy the entire Jamstix installation from the old PC to the new PC via LAN or CD

- copy the jamstix_license.txt file to the Jamstix folder on the new PC

- run Jamstix once on the new PC, it will activate and ask you for the location of its folder

- once JS is running, close it and run the 1.7 updater

Thanks Ralph
One thing though:
How do you recommend I do the copy? I could use System Mechanic to do a move but that takes "forever". If I just copy the exe (or the DLL?) to a CD or external HD is it going to function once saved in the new HD?

Thanks in advance
Joe

You can use a CD or eHDD but you need to copy the whole Jamstix folder, including subfolders, DLLs etc.
