hi is it possible to slow down or speed up a pattern without incresing tempo but by changing groove to play at half time or double time? the reason is the reggea grooves are set around 80-90bpm but some reggea tunes are around 130-140 so instead of jamstix jamming the groove it sounds erratic. i've serched but can't seem to work out how to do this

Is this a library rhythm and, if so, what is its name?

not so much any paticular pattern or library but can jamstix play a library in half time? if i had to say a library i would say reggea as jams seem to play o at 70 - 90 bpm but most reggea tracks are built a lot faster at around 130 - 180

Check your ABOUT tab to see which version of Jamstix you are running and let me know.

sorry ralph, i just installed 1.7 beta rc ...... i love it! i think i had one of the previous betas very early 1.7 version. i have a reaggea track and was using a sample reggea loop, i wanted a more realistic groove and i normally use hip hop with reggea. when i tried to use this library it just sounds manic so i introduce half time but it doesn't sound right. maybe i'm using wrong libraries together. like the idea of keyboard jam little bit unsurw how to use it but i'll get my head round eventually. but back to the question, i don't think there was a problem with version i had but you can't play some librarys at high bpm or mybe its me Wink

The reason I was asking about the version is because we changed some reggae rhythms in 1.7.

A good half-time reggae is 'Really Reggae' in the library. You may wish to move the snare accent slider to zero to simplify it.

Let me know if that helps.

ralph to go a bit further would i be right in saying jamstix wont play at hi bpm's without sounding like a drummer on speed? i know im sounding akward but lets say i did a track at 140bpm and i'm using hiphop , i would not be able to maybe halftime the groove? i don't know if im saying it in the right term but its like the drum and bass merchants might speed up a drum break to fit their track but i want the opposite to slow down a break to fit tempo

It's a complex issue so let's nail down the specifics. Are we talking about reducing the perceived tempo of a groove/rhythm (a repeated pattern) or a fill?

If it is the later, please install Jamstix 1.7 and then check the box 'Simplify By Suppressing 16th Notes' in the fill options (next to the slider) and see if that helps.

well its a bit of both ralph, if i did a reggea groove at its usuall 70-90 bpm jams is ok if i did reggea at 140-170bpm using the same groove( lets say hiphop) jams groove and fills sound manic. even if i was to supress 16beats it would stll be playing very fast. so like in real guiter2 i can double time or halftime or normal time patterns. i have not seen this feature in js but i thought there might be a way to do it. if not could that be something added to js2?.......please Wink

Well, a reggae at 170BPM IS fast:)

Some rhythms in Jamstix are already half-timed (like the reggae rhythm I recommended). Most hip-hop rhythms are not. There is currently no automated way to half-time a rhythm outside of 'free jam'. In 'free jam' you just check 'Half-time' in the style panel and you're set. Jamstix 2 will make it easy to manually half-time rhythms.

Another approach is to use the tempo multiplier in Jamstix. Just add the line

TempoMultiplier=0.5

to the [General] section of your jamstix.ini and Jamstix plays half-speed. The drawback is that its a global setting, not song-specific. Furthermore, the bar numbers will of course be out of synch between host and JS.
