I checked out the websites for DFH and BFD Expansion Drumkits, that are apparently supported in Jamstix. One thing I couldn't help notice right off was they are pricey (well over $100.00 and up).

With that in mind, can anybody that owns and uses these kits care to comment on which ones to buy? Are they worth the money? Are they worth buying versus the kits expansion kits that we can purchase from Jamstix? Do they work well in Jamstix? Any other opinions?

I haven't tried any Jamstix expansions, but the general consensus shows them to be v.good.

I however use BFD and the expansion packs, and rate it/them as the best of the bunch. They easily intergrate with Jamstix too via the mappings.

DKFHS is good, but not "all that" IMHO. Their GUI design is pants, and with processed samples (unlike BFD) I'd find it harder to mix (speaking strictly as a sound engineer Smile

).

The choice is ultimately yours, so listen to the kit pieces on the fxpansion website for each pack, and the demo's on the toontrack website. But, I guarantee you'll find BFD easier and better in many respects, with lots more features, and phenomenal support (just like Ralph's here).

I am new to a lot of this stuff, so please bear with me if my question(s) seem elementary.

Do these DFH and BFD kit packs include both the sound samples and various styles of MIDI tracks? If so, then in Jamstix we can use both, correct? Or we can choose to use just one, like the sample sounds for instance? Or import just a MIDI track?

I saw the GrooveMonkee website but I believe these are only various MIDI tracks. No sounds are included.

BFD does include grooves, which you are able to drag to your midi tracks in your host sequencer (cubase, logic, protools, etc...).

You can link BFD/DKFHS to Jamstix, and have it play grooves, free jam, etc...all to an arrangement defined by you.

You can in some sequencers record the midi output from Jamstix to a midi track, thus allowing you to freely edit the midi.

Jamstix and BFD are the perfect combination for quick, easy, and professional sounding drum performances.
