|
|
Hi -
I know I can switch to Manual Jam and then click on the rhythm in the Arranger window to hand-edit the HH/Snare/Cymbals. But what if I still would like to hear those latter three instruments Free Jam while keeping the Kick locked?
I think something like this might occur if the kick were deactivated in the Randomize panel (but the other instruments were allowed to be randomized), but I'm not sure if that's the same thing.
Does anyone here do this sort of thing?
Thanks _________________ Alexis

Alexis, I don´t know if this will solve your problem or answer your question, but do you know you can lock KICK, SNARE and HATS complexity and funkiness- wise?
Simply go to the Jam tab and lock the appropriate instrument. The instruments that remain unlocked still correspond with the Master complexity and funkiness sliders.
Hope this hels. |

Thanks, Doc!
The situation I'm looking at is (for example) having worked the kick drum to perfection (ahem ), I still am clueless as to the right sound I'd like for the other instruments (HH, Snare, Toms, etc.). So I thought that getting ideas from Free Jam for those other instruments, while keeping the kick locked, might be a good way to go.
Do you happen to know, does locking the complexity and funkiness on the kick keep a new rhythm from being chosen by Free Jam? If it does, it sounds like that might be great for keeping the kick exactly the same.
The other side to this question is whether the changing complexity and funkiness per the Master sliders will change the instruments that aren't locked as much as a Free Jam would. I think a Free Jam changes the rhythm name as well, but I'm not sure if changing complexity/funkiness does. Do you happen to know if changing complexity/funkiness occurs all within one specific rhythm name (which wouldn't be quite what I would be looking for), or if it actually calls up different rhythms (which would be awesome).
Thanks again for your help and thoughts! _________________ Alexis

Free jam affects all sounds, regardless of comp/funk lock. So you cannot lock one sound and have others free jamming. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

OK, thanks, Ralph.
So I thought of a workaround I think might work:
1) Once I have the kick the way I like it, mute all the other tracks, then render JS to an audio track in my sequencer (Cubase SX). This track should have only the kick drum on it.
2) Then start the sequencer and run a FreeJam, but with the kick muted in JS. So now, should hear the kick from the audio track in the sequencer, and all the others (HH, snare, toms, etc.) from FreeJam.
3) Just keep resetting FreeJam until I get some nice ideas of how to complement the kick, and take it from there!
Does this sound like a good way to do this?

Hmm this sounds very time consuming to me.
Well if I wanted to get the rhythms straight in a very detailed way I´d take the approach of actually let JS come up with something that I quite like, then go to Manual Jam and tweak the respective rhythms to perfection/to my liking and saving them. |
