Hi All -

I'm trying to get as many of the JS drum sounds to their own individual Cubase SX track as possible, for individual processing.

I'd like to have, for example, the Hi Hat sound on its own mapped to Output #7 (using the internal engine, and JS 1.6):

I notice that by default there are four JS tracks that open up when JS is started.

So I tried the following:
a) In Mapping Tab: "Sounds" section ... in "Outputs", I clicked up to 16.

b) Also in Mapping Tab: "Mapping" Section I moved the "Output" slider to #7.

But, of course, there are still only 4 outputs in the JS VST track, and I've got no indication that this Hi Hat has been assigned a separate output (#7 in this case) for individual processing. I've got a feeling I'm missing something basic here ...

Can someone set me straight please?

BTW, after doing the above, and then closing down Cubase SX and then opening it up, I also get this related message :

"This mixer configuration expected Jamstix to have 4 Stereo. The Instrument currently has 16 stereo. Change the instrument configuration before reloading this setup."

Thanks -

VST and most VST hosts were created with plugins having an unchanging number of outputs. As a result, changing that number can cause issues with previously saved projects. Note that this is not a Jamstix limitation but a host limitation. Some hosts can handle this better than others.

After changing the output number in Jamstix you must always restart Jamstix for the change to take effect (host limitation).

Now that you have 16 stereo outputs, start a new project in Cubase, load JS and you will see all the outputs and can route sounds as desired.

Note that higher output numbers increase CPU usage. You mileage will vary with CPU and host.

Thank you, Ralph, you are right on the money as always Very Happy

Do you know, is there any way to increase the number of outputs once a Cubase SX project has been started (of course, closing down Jamstix and reopening as you suggested)? I could see where I might find myself a few outputs short as the project grows. I guess I could always have a default project with lots of outputs, but as you say, that would eat into CPU usage.

Thanks again!

I'm not familiar enough with Cubase to answer that question. In Sonar (my go-to host) it's quite easily done. I'd ask the folks at the Cubase forum.

Alexis: you can do this no problem. Just ignore the error message about what Cubase expects and save the project.
Close Jamstix (remove it from the VST rack), and open it up again. Voilà!

You also might want to try some of the mappings I created for Jamstix in Cubase with multiple outputs. Look it up in Rayzoon´s download section.
